Falcon’s Flight is an absolutely insano rollercoaster that’s opening today at Six Flags Quiddiya in Saudi Arabia.

This extreme vanity project seemed like something that would never get built but lo and behold they actually built it and it is just obscene

It absolutely obliterates the height, speed and length records for a coaster:

Falcons Flight is 13,943.6 feet (4,250.0 m) long and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). The coaster uses the natural cliffs near the park to attain a peak elevation of 639.8 feet (195.0 m) and a drop of 525 feet (160 m), while the tallest freestanding hill is 535 feet (163 m) from ground level and features a 519-foot (158 m) drop.

It’s obviously not located in the most ideal place in the world for numerous reasons, but the hardcore enthusiasts are currently planning their trips.

Would you ride Falcon’s Flight?

(The answer is obviously: yes)

If ever I do accept a contract in KSA I'll definitely check it out. I wouldn't travel just for this though.

Looks tame, big banking turns, smooth as butter. If the seats on it are comfy might even be able to fall asleep on it

What you want are clanky old rides before computers got involved to smooth out the jolting and over engineered everything. Carts that partially derail themselves, restraints that are nothing more than a bar across your legs that don’t come anywhere near your lap so you have you hold on tight for fear of being flung out. Blackpool in the 90s had loads of these, that mouse one in particular.

And women, and homosexuals, and dogs, and and and.

**** that place.

Sounds just like a culture we should be importing! Right? Remember, if you disagree with importing backwards oppressive cultures you're a racist bigot.

As an aside I know a guy who holidays in the Arab states twice a year minimum. Loves it there. Weirdly hes gay and is an active gay rights campaigner. He travels with a friend of ours who pretends to be his wife when he goes. Make sense of that if you can because I cant.

If you prefer Sharia Law there's nothing stopping you moving.

Whilst KSA does follow Islamic law as a Westerner I had a great time there. But I spent a lot of time around the middle east growing up so it feels second nature to me.

I get it's not for everyone but KSA is miles different from where it was decades ago.

It does have questionable things from a Westerner perspective and from a human rights perspective I'm not denying that. But overall it feels safe and modern (even in the wadis and small villages in the desert).

I don't think it ever wants to become Western but it's their prerogative.
