Hi all,

Went to start the car yesterday and it kept turning over but nothing happened.

Symptoms as far as i could tell was the fuel pump wouldnt do the priming thing it does (you can hear it) and after turning it over quite a few times, i could smell no fuel, so it obviously wasnt getting any fuel.

I got told to check the Fuel Pump Replay in the drivers footwell under the kick panel, hold/listen to hear it and if you can hear/feel it click then thats not your problem... it didn't.

So i took off the relay which looked like it was manufactured by Stevie Wonder, it was a bit battered and covered in Insulation tape.

These relays are suually around £10 as they are quite common for going pop, but mine..? £25+vat AND special order from Vauxhall as they don't stock it on the shelves.

So not only has the car locked me out, made me buy it a new alarm, it now decides not to start :o

Phil :D

If it's anything like the Prelude, it's a really simple fix!

Basically, with age (and variances in heat), the solder joints start to break, and they can stop making contact!

So just pull it apart, re-solder all the joints with nice fresh solder, and away you go!

Yeah because i can do that :p

It looks like (from the insulation tape and general condition of it) thats its seen better days, and been tampered with before, i'd rather play safe and order one that i knwo won't break at the hands of my fiddling :)

Well just saved myself £15!

I called up a company called Vaux-World (who i purchased my ignition barrel from) and they didn't have the part i wanted, so i did a search on google and it came up with a relay that was suitable for multiple cars (mine included).

I then went back on the website, and searched for that relay and they stocked it brand new for £9.99 (£12 with postage) so i've saved myself a few pennies there :)

Now all you need is a car that's not used for storing gardening equipment

I'd be happy to store gardening equipment if the car would actually transport it :p ;)

Fuel pump relay for mine when it was available was £80+ but fortunately if you can live without the brief burst before the starter activates, you can use a standard relay that costs peanuts :)

Main dealers are stupidy expensive sometimes. I've just got two tiny bulbs to go in the dashboard of the g/f's Micra. Almost £8!!!!!!!.

Last time I needed bulbs to go in a dashboard I managed to get them from the motorfactors for 50p.
