I was nosing through the macworld forums and came across this thread..

Yesterday, the BBC published an article about alternatives to using a mouse or keyboard. They mentioned the Wii and some other research projects, such as a homebrew solution and of course they talked about Microsoft's Surface, but I'm sure that if they thought hard, they might be able to think of a company who have sold millions of devices which already do exactly what they're talking about and are now incorporating the technology in their laptops too, but there wasn't even an oblique reference to that company or it's products.

Is this adding more fuel to the iplayer fire!? As mentioned above, the BBC seem to completely overlook apple, who I would imagine due to the success of the iPhone and iPod touch are industry leaders in the field...

Any thoughts?

Classic BBC tbh.

Like the time they showed a picture of Halo 3 and called it by some other game's name, or when they called Amy Winehouse, Mary Whitehouse.

Journalists who know nothing about tech shouldn't report it

I agree.. but its odd as 'Click', the BBC tech program is a fan of apple... you'd assume though, that a company as large as the BBC would employ tech-savvy people to write about it!

Thing is, if you're a tech journalist, who do you want to work for? The BBC or a dedicated tech publication?

I understand the premise completely, but for many the BBC is the newscaster of choice...

I take your point though!

Boo hoo.

Apple get more than enough exposure to their products and technologies. Just seems like a 'poor old Apple' moan. I'm sure a lot more people have heard of the iPod touch than they have of Microsoft's surface program. The latter is a bit more advanced, although will inevitably be stifled by Microsoft.

I agree - apple do get exposure - but my previous comment was nothing to do with that...

When you're talking about UI's without using the traditional keyboard and mouse - a MAJOR player (who's actually shifting units) is apple...

You're right - many more people will have heard of the iPod touch and the iPhone compared to the MS 'computer in a coffee table' thingy - but I still think its a valid point..

If you were talking about baked beans and left out Heinz - they'd be mighty peeved...
