I'm with BT (who are **** but thats a topic for another day) and I have been using their homehub 5 for a few years now. Its not great but it works well enough.
Lately we seem to have been having issues with either the hardware or the line quite consistently. At roughly the same time each day it turns to ****. Drops connection, router goes red and everything dies.
I have decided to do something that I have been meaning to do since we got the thing and replace it with a dedicated VDSL modem and stand alone router.
I have the modem coming in the next few days and I got a google wifi router today.
My question is, why on earth does the whole network go down when the HH5 has any problems with the internet. It makes 0 sense to me. The traffic over the network doesn't rely on the internet. I can't use my NAS or anything else on the network while the HH5 sorts its knickers out.
I assume this is something to do with the way it handles the connection issue. Is the whole HH restarting? Why does it need to do that?
We had the occasional issue over the past few years but its got to the point where its seriously effecting my work now.
Since I have stuck the google wifi router on the HH5 that at least doesn't go down when the HH5 throws a wobbly but the NAS etc is still unavailable. Will the dedicated modem and router combination sort this out?
