Went to see my mum in hospital tonight (don't panic, nothing serious :)) when I saw her Patientline bedside media thingy. It's got TV, radio, phone
and internet access on it. Pretty neat unit by all accounts to help stop the boredom. Anyhow, she didn't realise it had internet access on it so I went to post on the forums from her bedside when it crashed :p

Now nothing works on it. She can't watch TV or phone people :/

Tried to talk to the helpline staff and they said they'd sort it remotley but it still wasworking when I left, lol.

So, my mum is probably now sitting there bored unless they got it working again. Anybody know what system these things run on? Must have been WinME by my reckoning :p

Ho ho ho, probably, WinME for *** lose. I think they break very commonly anyway, when my mom was in hospital hers didn't work to start with.

This is the first time this occurred to me that fortunately the Hospitals IT depts don't support this (Mental note to try and break one next time I am up on the wards). I take it that it must have been a centralised helpine? Booo you big meanie, leaving her there in hospital with no entertainment :p If I ever have to go into hospital I get patientline for free \o/ ....although to be fair I'd rather not have to be in hospital ever again.

Had great fun setting these up at work, the ones we had, the patients had to pay for. They can choose to watch whatever film they wanted... at a price.

You are a disgrace to the community!
B..b..but.....I tried to Ctrl+Alt+Del but there wasn't enough keys on the keyboard :/

And I could find a reset button either. Even holding down the power button wouldn't turn the damn thing off :p

I'm thinking of writing a "Patientline for Dummies" book :D

the company i work for is making the new ones of these. cracking little machines for what they are. but they are such a PITA to make.

She should just wander around until she finds a bedbound/incapacitated patient, sit in their chair and watch to her hearts content :D

Funny this should come up, my friend is in hospital and an engineer came around to fix his patientline thinger, as last night i tried to get the damn popups enabled again so he could use web messenger, and it crashed, this morning an engineer came around and reset it, it took litterly 30 minutes to turn back on, and its windows CE!

My mum's in hospital later today, but I'm 100 miles away, so out of range of breaking patientline thingies (doubtless I would if I could though :D)

Fingers very much crossed.

Would it now be a good time to give her a PURE (or some other nice-looking and decent sounding) DAB radio for her Valentine's Day present? :)
Nice looking? Those bug things are just PURE evil.

Good call :p Besides, the other ranges are really quite nice looking... (Was never keen on the BUG)

But seriously, I find that older people really love radio in general, and DAB seems to be one of the few latest technologies that they are genuinely excited about (especially because of the extra stations).

Tivoli Audio also do very good radios apparently, but most of their models are FM/MW.

no wonder my patientline shares are going down.
thanks a bunch :)

out of interest are the terminals any good? such a good idea.
they will be doign all sorts with them in the future. picking off the menu, showing x-rays etc. pill reminders.

They are very good.. I had use of one when I went in for an op last November :) Was happily browsing the interweb (and odd post on OcUK of course ;)) and you get quite a few digital channels etc.
