in one of the dumbest moves ever, i knocked my macbook off my bed and SLAM it hit the floor.

it actually seems to be working ok apart from one slight thing. now it seems to be making this quiet high pitched whining sound but which goes away when i hold the mouse button. any ideas what's going on there?

First of all, you are a horrible, horrible person. Dropping such a gorgeous, incredible machine should be an act punishable by public hanging!

Second of all, there is a well documented problem with MacBook (Pros) whining. I suggest you do a Google on the matter and investigate properly, but after a couple of seconds of research it would appear some people experience it when the processor is idling. I assume clicking the mouse sets the processor into action and thus stops the whining? It makes sense, I guess. I have no idea if there are any widespread fixes or diagnostic procedures, but you're certainly not the only person with a whining MacBook (Pro).

Of course there is always the chance that you have damaged some internal components, but the fact that it stops when the mouse clicks indicates it would be something more complicated :)

Its easily done, I dropped my vaio scared the living day lights out of me!

If vallario is correct you will have to stop niglecting your mac and pay it 100% full attention like any rightful mac owner would :D

While halfway up, I dropped my Dell laptop down an escalator. OK, so it's not a pretty Macbook, but it's damn scary hearing a laptop bounce and roll all the way down. With a normal drop, you just get the one thud. With an escalator drop, you get a whole series of them.

PS - It survived. Not a scratch. The bag it was in helped.

Here's hoping the Macbook survived too.
