Who's a collector

Ok been pondering this a while, and not posted...... trying to hide from my own weakness I think..... So who's a Camera or Lens Collector...... To qualify you change your camera regularly, which doesn't actually make your pictures look any different or buy lenses that lets be honest, a bit of leg work would easily solve !!!.....Or even buy the Pro version, only to view on screen or on A5 paper !!!! But hey it's nice to collect the set, or try some models that you couldn't have afforded when it was new, but now on an auction.........
Plus you never sell the old ones .........

Ok, I'm a Contax fan, started when I was at school.....??? years ago ...and saw around a mates a 137 with 80-200SP Tamron attached..the build and feel just impressed me, and always wanted one after that.

So some 15 years or more ago bought a brand new RX and 50mm lens for about 1200 quid !!!......... Hooked ever since........and have collected 7 lens, and have my eye out for two more !!!......Plus I have a 159 as a back up............... WHY !!!!

Then the is the N series, never used the NX or N1, but would really like to try them out......and the Contax auto focus lenses....again "bargains" can be found ......

Or even more tempting, but still fetching a good price is the 645 medium format, for nearly as long I have wanted to play with a MF camera....may be the cheaper Bronica ETRSI......
It's just the Contax stuff is so beautifully engineered, and great to handle and hold..... (sad innit !! )


Do I need any of this ?? ...when most pictures are now shot with the 5D ...oops up to 4 lens already...... Oh and I picked up a EOS5, just to give me a film option with the new Canon lenses.......then a 400L F5.6 looks tempting.........Ahhhhh STOP

errr, I think I might have to hold my hand up here for me and the other half,

We have a collection ranging from 1947 bellows cameras, 60's rangefinders, loads of compacts (at least 10), a couple of polaroids instamatic thingies, 3 or 4 slrs, and lately a DSLR each...

and I still scour the Bay for interesting additions, one day i will find a Mamiya 6 or 7 for a sensible price.....

Hey thought I was the only one, guess everyone else doesn't want to own up!! ...

Got me thinking, what have I owned over the years,

Started with a Yashica range finder, my first 35mm camera then as follows
Praktica LTL3 .....(Hmm that dates me !!!)
Minolta X300 (perfect learning camera..)
Chinon thing as a second camera
Minolta X700 (Camera of the year many times)
Contax RX (still have, engineering excellence )
Nikon F80 (Superb, does everything you need so well, a steal used)
Nikon D70 (Daughter has it now..Son of F80 )
Contax 159 (Still have it, Small light and so traditional !)
Canon 5D (Had it a few months, the best shutter noise I've heard, ergonomics not up to Nikon standards !)

I'm sure many will have a lot longer list than that, but wouldn't be "collectors"
