i'm already getting 9450 performance at low volts with a q6600, i'll keep my 100 quid for the upgrade this time.
i would revisit the situation if there were boards that could take advantage of a 9450 however.
500+fsb on a quad guaranteed boards.
i'd want 4ghz+ to even consider the hassle of selling my chip and then ponying up another 100 but i can see the attraction for some.
Im looking forward to a surge in cheap Q6600s![]()
My Q6600 seems to top out at 3.5GHz so I'm quite happy with that. I'll wait and see what people are getting with the Q9450s as I'm paying no attention to what the ES chips can do. If people hit 3.6GHz and over with ease then I'll make the jump.
Otherwise, if people are struggling to hit 3.6GHz then it's really not worth the hassle of me forking out for a new chip and selling my old one on. Also given that my luck is poor and I seem to get the fairly rubbish overclocking chips I'm not in any major rush.
So in short, I might but I'll wait to see how the retails do. It's just not worth the effort right now.
How? I cant see the Q9450 doing more than 3.6GHZ even with a X48 & high spec ram which isnt going to be any faster than a 4GHZ Q6600
Unless i see many of these hit 4GHZ without diein (like the duals on XS) then it will be Q6600 for me until the new sockets come along![]()
Curious what kinds of apps take advantage of these SSE4 instructions? games?
i dont think there is point buy one for about 10% increase in performance i think waiting for nahelm would be wiser but if you have money to burn for 10% performance.
I will defo give the Q9450 a go but wont sell my q6600 not until the new quad proves itself, be nice with one of those x48 chipset mobos when they turn up![]()
Are there any q9450 reviews out yet?
What multi does this chip have?
Don't you mean it's going to cost you £113.49?
Why do folks feel the need to justify there purchases ?
If you want one buy one, it's no ones business but your own.
Easy why do you start these pointless threads ?
Sorry to be a bit of a noob here but to save me reading the whole thread could someone answer this for me please...
Is it worth getting a Q9450 over a Q6600 if you are not planning on overclocking it???
It's not the current motherboards limitations, it's an FSB wall on the ES chips. Retail chips *might* not be so limited.
Thanks, I will take that as a "Yes it is worth it".![]()
Good point, is that 400mhz per core though or 100mhz per core making a total of 400mhz???
day to day i doubt an average user currently over 3ghz on a Q6600 would notice the difference apart from benchmarks.
heavy encoders and the like would probably get great benefit out of one, for almost everyone else it's just something to buy/play with.
