I've just bought a used PSU from 2013 Via a wanted post on here and it got me thinking about how many upgrades my PSUs have seen me though.

I've got an EVGA P2 1000W that I bought second hand that has powered me through lots of upgrades I believe it started with a 2500k system and GTX470 since then it's seen a 5,6,7,9,10 series card ( sli 780s) and several CPU changes its now powering a Ryzen 3600 Vega 56 system and is still perfect.

I just wondered who's using an old PSU on a modern system?

I've got a 650w gold rated Silverstone PSU that was powering off when drawing about 500 from the wall. Do PSUs tend to fail to deliver rated wattage when they're on the way out?

They get less efficient over time as components degrade, but it's difficult to compare what it's pulling from the wall, a PC PSU is basically an AC/DC converter so you'll always have an efficiency loss in the conversion.

That said, if a 650 is pulling 500w from the mains, it's got to have a pretty heavy load on it

Overclocked Vega 56 and 2700x so yes pretty heavy but If it was working as rated it should be able to pull over 700w from the wall surely?

Mine saw me right through AM4 last system it powered was a 5950x 7900xt.

AM5 was it's downfall though for some reason. Got crashes as soon as it was under load so never quite made it to 10 years. Still did me proud.
