Why would you need to import games? the consoles are region free.

Just like the 360 but some publishers region lock the games which makes things a pain.

We took the issue to a Nintendo US spokesperson and received the clarification we desired, unpleasant as it was.

"We've heard conflicting reports from lots of folks out there, but can tell you that Wii will be region encoded, as will first-party software."

I knew the Wii was popular but I didn't realise it was that popular. Looks like your going to have to snap up the pre-orders very quickly if you want one in time for Christmas.

Ok some questions before i pre-order my Wii..

Do i get charged for the Wii before it gets dispatched? Or does the money only come out my account once it has been sent?

Does the UK Wii play US and UK GC games? As i currently have a US GC and wanted to get a UK wii..

Does the Wii have region locks like the GC or are all games region free?

... Any got this info?

480P looks a darn dight better than RGB etc.. so i wouldnt diss it so quickly.. Plus with you have a HDTV you can usually UPscale it to effectively AntiAlias the picture to remove jaggies.. Although my 360 on 480 or 720p both looks great..

The Wii *is* going to be region encoded. Early reports that it was region free are incorrect. Both the console and the games (inc first party) will be region locked. Links:

Thats a bugger.. I assume that means that the US gamecube game will not work either which kind of ruins my back catalogue.. unless i get a US Wii.. I wonder if the freeloader is likely to work for Multiregion GC games.. i certainly hope so.
