Everyone on this forum seems to be Rover experts, so who's owned one (bought and driven rather than beaten them in a race or with a sledgehammer :p) and what did you think to it.

I'm not interested in whether your Dad's Uncle's Brother's Sister has owned one... I want to know what YOU'VE owned.

Owned 4.

416GSi (H reg)
420GSi (K reg)
420GSi (M reg)
MG ZS (54)

Also owned VW's and Peugeot's. Rovers have been bloody great imo.

She hates it becuase it is 'too big'. She has no rational feelings on it, although the head gasket has gone, twice.

It's not actually THAT bad, really.

Ok then, go on, what does she think to it?

I dread to think, but Friday night and Fox is on the forum and not either out or with his GF, come to think about it your on most eveings, does she get to see you about 5seconds each day?

Never owned a rover, but i have driven a few, whilst i would never buy one the ones i had a drive of seemed to be good cars.

Fox hasn't even had a go at anybody, and you're having a go back at him for no reason in here

I'm sure it was a joke :)

Anyway, let's not turn this thread into another spam fest.

I want honest opinions.

a) It's a 414Si
b) Pay more attention Firestar and you'll note there are a number of nights where I won't be found on here, but this is offtopic for this thread.

I had a bash in a Rover 75, it was the petrol but not sure on engine size could have been a 1.8 or 2.0?

Was a few years back now, really good quality ride and the dash was nice, good seats, didn't like roundabouts though seemed to confuse it.

I've also had a drive of a 214sli i think it was...

Having a go at him, do you wear your heart on your sleeve, it was an observation, girls like lots of attention but we all know fox's first love is his 530 then OCUK :p

:o She thinks a 414 is too big? Should have got a 25.

I'm guessing it's a bubble?

Weird for the headgasket to go twice. Once they've been done once, if they were done properly, they shouldn't go again for a long time.

Mark, 75 was a 2.0 V6 IIRC. Yeah, they're good motorway cruisers, but that's about it. Don't like 0-60 sprints or corners. Great interior though.

I keep telling myself I miss my 214, but in reality, the 220 is so much better. I guess it's the K-series part of me... having never suffered HGF, I refuse to accept that they're a badly designed engine.

Yea, it's a 98. I don't actually think that shape is THAT bad, never have done. They just don't make sense at big money and/or with tat on and a ZS badge on the back.

Well, it is a Honda Civic afterall.

If Rover didn't have such a lazy design team, they could have come up with something spectacular. Just look at the 75/ZT. Rover didn't design that... but they could have.

They're fetching real bargains now though. Was having a look for a friend this week... a fully kitted out 40k mile ZT CDTi with all the extras... goes for around 6.5-7k.

Someone else I know recently bought a ZT 260 for 11k!

My housemate owned a Coupe Turbo for a few years, I helped him do lots of work on it so I think that should count.

Personally I think they are very underated cars. By far the best car i've driven for putting down the power through the front wheels, and handle very well too with aftermarket suspension. Bloody awful brakes though!

Had 4, all 200s

K reg 214Si (bit poverty spec, no PAS, but a decent enough car at 18)
R reg 218 VVC coupe (loved it, sold it after it got broken into)
L reg 216 coupe (the silver one that was uber cheap)
Another L reg 216 coupe (current black one, figured the whole cheap car thing was fun and good for learning about cars with, engine from the silver one is now in this one as the cambelt snapped 3 weeks after I bought it).

The Turbo's have the same brakes as my 220 NASP!

Although, I've only had mine fade twice... once was going along the MM roads before I lowered it, the other was braking hard from 100+ when some **** moved into the outside lane on a pretty empty motorway.

That was a BIG brown trouser moment for me.

So, did you suffer any reliability issues?
