Ill be looking to get a laptop so tht i can still use my games and do my skwl work. Ive looked at some laptop makes like alienware and was wondering if there was anything better or if they are worth the rather large price tag? I dont really have a budget as long as its not some +£5000 monster!

Can anyone please give me some info on the best laptops out there

Dells have some nice deals with people. If you head to the purple shirted brigade who've just got Dell in, they're selling the following spec for £699.99

T7250 C2D
2GB RAM
250GB HD
DVDRW
15.4" Screen
8600M GT 256MB GPU

Better spec than Tesco etc have just got in from Dell, and pretty competitive. (Yes I work for the purple shirted brigade, but it IS a good deal), not to mention you can walk into stores and take them away, rather than having to wait for Dell :) (You have to look at specs as well as models with the shops now selling Dell, as Dell have lazily used the same model numbers for different shops with different specs!)

Would play most games inc new ones on lower settings :)

Beyond a certain point laptops get rediculously expensive, you'd be looking at easily another £1000 to get something seriously more powerful, as thiers only the 7900,8800 and 8700 chips stronger than the 8600 variants, and they're reserved for premium gaming laptops ~£2K

Gaming wise -

AlienWare
Rock
Dell XPS
Voodoo <~~for stupid people. One guy shelled out 8k US dollars for one.

All expensive though

Asus
Gateway
Dell Vostro

Cheaper ^^

This is a beast http://www.notebookforums.com/thread211472.html looking at £2.5k

See above regards a Dell. Zepto and Zoostorm are also worth a look. Forgot to mention the purple shirted brigade are also getting the XPS M1730 in a week or two, for £1699 which contains:

T7500 C2D
2GB RAM
320GB HD
17" Screen
SLI 256MB 8700M GT (2 GPU in SLI)

Get an X80r if your shopping in the UK 1400 pounds gets you an 8800MGTX, T7700, 4GB, 320GB scorpio, 17" 1920x1200, 8.5lb, 44mm thick , get a Gateway P-6831FX if your shopping in the US equivalent to 690 pounds gets you an 8800MGTS, T5500, 3GB, 250GB scorpio, 17" 1440x900, 8lbs, 3.5mm thick (upgrade the CPU to a T7500 and HDD to a 320GB scorpio for ~200 pounds).

None of that 2k pounds rubbish said earlier and a system to rival some of the best non-sli, dual core systems you can buy today. My system (the P-6831FX with the upgrades suggested) scores over 9K in 3dMark'06, and at 1440x900 (since its native I get no scaling artifacts higher res's get, if they run at the same settings)I can run Crysis at high no AA, 4x AF and its very playable (~30fps average) except in extreme firefights (drops to 9fps) (as with even the greatest tri-SLI systems today).

Also tbh unless your particularly weak, or want a small laptop theres no reason to get the DELL, for what it is, its a complete rip off compared to what I suggested above. With the Gateway I get 3.5hrs on power saver mode with wifi on and browsing, around 1.5hrs when I play games high performance mode. With the X80r people are seeing around 1hr play time.
