Although last year DX10 and Vista looked a long way off, i'm kinda glad i waited, otherwise i might have spent loads of cash on a new graphics card when there is a chance that they could become obsolete if they dont support DX10.

Who else has put off their upgrade off a little longer than usual?

Problem is you wait for a first gen DX 10 card, buy it, runs all your DX 9 games like an ape on speed, then when DX10 games do eventually arrive, your purchased DX10 card doesn't have enough grunt to run it the way you wanted.

Yeah that was a problem with other generations of DX cards, but seeing that a card will either support DX10 or not sure this will be as much of a problem, still, rather wait a bit and buy a DX10 card than spend £1k on an Sli setup that wont be able to run the lastest games.

I'm waiting for one. features are always more important than speed, you can alwasy switch off AA or lower the res or options but you can not make up for missing features. With DX10 things are more efficient so should be able to run faster for the equivalent effects on the equiavlent DX9 hardware so the speed of generation 1 DX10 hardware is not as important. Especially if you don't have a gigantic TFT thing, and I would never own a TFT monitor anyway so i can always change resolution easily.

R600 and G80 will rock no doubt about it.

According to pc pro vista isnt out till december due to bugs and even then it will be another year before its pached up properly, I would upgrade now, but not with sli unless you have a high res monitor. pesonally i would wait a few weeks untill the x1900's drop in price then snap one up,thats more than enough power till dx10 is mainstream

That was my main concern, although the whole Vista thing's pretty exciting to me, (new OS to learn), the early adopter/bug/frustration thing makes me wonder if it's worth waiting for a DX10 card this year purely on that capability, when most games this year (Quake Wars, Prey, UT2007?) will be DX9/XP. Knowing my complete lack of will power I'll more than likely get G71 and G80. :D

Yes I am waiting for DX10 graphics cards to be released.
I am also waiting for AMD's new M2 processor socket to be released which should be within the next 6 months?

I can't wait to upgrade to 64 bit

im trying to pick the perfect time to upgrade (if there is such a thing) still using an X850XT which is still holding its own (i only really play CSS anymore so not much use for a new card yet)

choosing the right time to upgrade is a difficult choice, ill just wait and see when i feel i really want the performance leap and for the right price

Its a funny time in the world of PC's, people are starting to realise there really isnt any point in upgrading at the moment, I have a 6800GT, and its fine, plays everything no problems, so I see no reason to upgrade, I get a rubbish 06 score, but I dont really care!

Im holding off for Vista, to see what will really happen, I have a good A64 CPU @ 2.8ghz, I may be wanting to get a dualcore at around 2.8ghz, as this is the only thing I think I may want (also as my pc is a server for the house, so is sendin data to 4 other pc's in house) so a dualcore my be benifical there.

Whats everyones thoughts on this ? I mean a dualcore/single core 2.8ghz, 6800GT and 2 gigs of ram is plenty, I should even be able to play eldar scrolls 4 at a reasonable res, games arnt really advancing, in terms of gfx and gameplay so wait is what im thinking, what u think folks?
