Whats it like in games, especially Quake4, Doom3 and Prey? Will it let me play at 1440x900 with eye candy on? It would be paired with a 3800+ single core.

Currently undecided if the X1800XT is worth the extra £40

i use two 7600GTs, each overclocked, they play quake 4, doom 3, HL2, etc without any trouble at all with all features turned on, don't forget 7600GTs are faster than 6800 ultras ;)

i got single 7600gt. and its amazing.

playing toca 3 at the moment with all details at max at 1600x1200 with 2xAA and lowest the framerate has ever dipped to is 37fps. this card is shocking!

i have been playing prey and have got to the last level called mothers embrace where the game keeps crashing when loading that level. but againa ll details maxed i run it at 1280x1024 with 2xAA.

Quake 4 runs super smooth at 1600x1200. max details

Doom3 runs again wonderfully at 1600x1200 with 2xAA ultra quality

battlefield 2 runs top notch at 1600x1200 max details.

hitman bloodmony runs great at 1280x960 with 2xAA max quality

Farcry max quality with r_hdrrendering 7 runs very well at 1280x960.

fear runs great with all details maxxed but soft shadows off at 1280x960 2xAA.

godfather the game runs top at max details at 1600x1200 2xaa

xmen the official game runs top notch at 1280x960 2xaa max details.

tomb raider legend runs brilliantly at 1600x1200 with 2xAA max details BUT if i enable next generation content then i only get decent (40+) fps at 1024x768.

dawn of war and winter assault run brilliantly at 1600x1200, all details at max but shadows off since they are more cpu taxing and allow me to see the battlefield more clearly.

king kong runs superb at 1280x960 2xaa (this game should have used the farcry engine)

Ghost recon Advanced warfighter runs great at 1152x864 16xAF (all details at max but textures not allowed to go higher than medium because it wants 512mb gfx card ram. )

there are various other games that i have played but the ones i have listed above are the games which are currently installed on my pc.

i tend to want more framerate rather than high resolutions or more AA since i want my minimum fps in games to remain high (over 40fps) e.g where i am running 2xaa i think you may be happy with 4xaa etc.

this is by far the best card i have ever had value for money wise. it was the best £97.50p inc vat and delivery i have ever spent.

i reckon my 7600GT (overclocked) SLI would breach 10,000 in 3D mark '05, what you think, each clocked 650/850 (got another 15Mhz out of the memory) :D

could do. im shocked how well the memory clocks on these cards. i hit the coolbits limitation at 840mhz but using riva tuner im stable at 865mhz. just wish coolbits allowed me to go higher than 840mhz since i don;t want to use any thirdy party tool to do overclocking with.

excellent cards though for the price.

very good bang for bucks IMO, and yeah the memory overclocks like crazy, with small voltage increase who knows what would be possible, the cores overclock as well though i feel there voltage restricted, there not at all held back by 128-bit memory interface due to the insane clock speed of the memory, but imagine how fast it would be with 256-bit, closer to X1800XT perhaps?

I’ve got one of these too running with my A64 3500 and 1GB ram and agree with the feedback thus far. Excellent mid-range card, haven’t had any issues running 1280 with everything turned on in any games. Particularly loves the doom engine games which seems to be what you are looking for.
