Is it possible to use MSTSC to remote into a virtual machine running on my PC from outside my network, if that makes sense?

Basically I am messing around with WHS 2011 before I splash out on hardware.

I have the VM running on my PC and I tried to get a friend to connect to it but he cant. I have enabled remote desktop on the virtual machine and forwarded the ports it asks for on my router but still no joy.

I just want to know if it is possible and if so, how to do it. :)

I am running WHS 2011 in Virtualbox 4.1.8

did you set the nic as bridge mode in VM?

did your friend used your external (ISP) ip addy?

did you enabled remote desktop in WHS2011 or the virtualbox settings? i believe (last time i used vb) their remote control is based on vnc so port would be different from microsoft's RDP. i might be wrong

Yes to first 2.

Enabled it in the virtual machine as in, in whs 2011 is self.

The different port could make sense! I will try it and then try to talk him into trying again :D

That was my mistake :D Now I need to test if I can remote into my PC on a different port so I can test a few things out while I am at work tomorrow :D
