I back up my WHS with an external drive connected by esata. I started it last night through the connector software, turned off my normal pc and went to bed. When I got up this morning no backup had been done. I tried it again before going out this morning and it started ok. I then put my pc in sleep mode and went out. Just got back and started my pc to check the backup status and again the backup has not been completed.

I started it again and left my pc on and it's backing up fine now. It never used to do this before so no idea what's happening now. Why should I have to leave my pc on when the backup is going? Any ideas?

Just to be clear, you are backing up files on the WHS. But when your PC is switched off, the WHS backup fails?

As I thought, he just made his post a little wordy!

Not really used WHS, so purely guessing here, but perhaps you have accidentally included your PC in the WHS backup?

Too much info I think!

The PC is not included as it's a manual backup. I've done it many times before where I set it off and then shut down my PC and in the morning the WHS backup is complete. For some reason the backup now fails if I turn off or put my PC to sleep.
