Firstly a search found nothing, so sorry if its a repost.

Just noticed on another UK site, which I'm not going to name, has Windows Home Server with 10 CALs for just over £90 ready to buy.

nice one, found it.

i tested it in beta and had no problems. Only thing is there is no 64bit connector. But thats being worked on.

When i say connector thats the management console.

You can connect to the shares and use them with no issues.

that price is excellent value, it includes 10 cals (client access licenses) which is excellent as well.

Basically means you can have upto 10 pc's connected to the server.

Very good imho

I'm not blown away by it's value, but I accept that compared to the enterprise solution (2003) it appears cheap. I really don't get the logic behind the CAL though - why on earth have they limited it to an arbitrary figure? I suppose they might argue that if you have more than 10 PCs then you're not a 'Home' user - but then the tools available aren't exactly 'corporate' so that seems a little specious.

Seems a bit like selling you a network card, but only allowing it to connect to a network with 9 or fewer other users? Why? Does that mean that If I were to want to back-up another machine beyond the 10 I'd have to buy another copy of WHS, and run it along side?

Well I think it's pretty safe to say that very few homes have more than 1 server and 10 clients.

Im pretty sure that if its anything like the normal ms route you will be able to buy individual and multiple extra licenses.

I think its excellent value for money.
