Yet another spec check and some advice, please.

I want a cheap system to run windows home server on.

I have:

MSI 875P neo mobo
p4 2.8
1 gig (2x512DDR)
some very old gfx for video otuput
OcUK Huntkey 450W PSU
An acceptable case

Need about 500gig storage to start with

Probably gonnna get a 500gig WD drive (? 2x250)

Should I change PSU?

Any other recommendations/ advice

Ta

Cheers.

Subsequently found that whs doesnt support a wireless connection to the router (sucks anyway IMO for large file transfer), so having to install a wired network first.

i would always say go wired for the whs.

I have gone for wired, to a gigabit switch, which has my router plugged into it.

This way all my devices plug into the switch and run at gigabit speed, although real world xfer speeds peak at about 65mbs.

Got the box up and running but went with Kubuntu instead as free.
Working nicely but using an old 120gb IDE drive at the moment.

I need a lot more storage.
Im gonna get a 500gb sata drive but...can I still use my IDE drive as well, or am I asking for trouble runing IDE and SATA together.

Cheers

Cheers.

Just completing now whether to put kubuntu on new hdd (sata) and then pull data off old drive, format it and use it as extra storage.

Or, just add in the sata drive.
