WHS v1 Crashing

After a fantastic couple of years with my WHS build I've started to have an odd problem. The server has been crashing and I now appear to have narrowed down the cause. When I try to unrar a specific file (≈10Gb) the system completely freezes (As a trial I have just unrared a different, smaller file and that was fine)- the only way to recover it is to reboot. All drives appear fine - smart reports no errors. (I should note that my first instinct was stability testing - but it Primes fine!)

I have had a couple of other oddities - every now and again the boot drive disappears  I shut down, 'jiggle' the cables and reboot - no errors, no issues. I have replaced all the sata cables with the secure locking ones and so far I haven't had a wondering drive again, but I can't rule it out.

I lost the machine a couple of days ago, when I tried to restart it it started to boot and as the drives spun up the whole thing died - had to disconnect all power and wait a while before it would start - same error. I changed the positioning of the cables in the modular PSU and that seems to have cured that problem (I have 6 Samsung drives from 1-2 TB each)

All in all it's a bit of a head scratcher - what I really need are some good diagnostic programmes so I can start eliminating things before I have a catastrophic crash. :(

The "boot drive" (C:) on WHS v1 will only be 20GB - maybe the application you're trying to use to unrar is trying to use the Temporary folder on this drive - and is filling it? Hence the crash (it runs out of HDD space)...?

Worth a look - I'll have a play from the console and try to work out where it's putting it and how much of the available resources it's using up. I've just had a complete tear down and reorg of all the cables when I swapped out the gfx card so I'm hoping it's just one of those gremlins that will now quietly disappear!
