hi, just wondering what the closest thing to WHS2011 linux has to offer.
i want something thats simple to setup, has media streaming over internet (ideally via web browser) and is simple to access via the web for remote desktop etc.

You would need to set up port forwarding through your router, but it should work... depending on the upload speed you have at home.

well it works via WHS 2011 so i cant see it being any different :) i just dont like WHS 2011 too much, so was looking for an alternative.

so basically i need an os, then addons to get it to work, there isnt an out of the box media server?

You install amahi on your box, then via the amahi web console, you install ampache... almost like installing an app on your phone.

How do you stream your media anyway? Is it some sort of web based silverlight client? I'm not too familiar with WHS.

yeh is browser based with silverlight. is good, but is also very limited
