I've got 2 HP N40L servers (one for media, the other for CCTV).
The media server is running WHS2011, the CCTV server is currently running XP Home (I had a spare licence, so I thought I'd try it to save a few quid).

Using XP is proving to be a bit of a pain. The server runs headless, so it's controlled remotely. RDC runs so much smoother than VNC, so I want to switch to using WHS2011 on the CCTV server. I'll be buying a second copy of WHS2011. but that means waiting a few days.

Will I have any problems if I load WHS2011 from my existing DVD, then activate it in a few days when the new disk arrives?

As above, as long as they are both retail (or oem you can't mix and match keys) versions this will work, and you get 30 days to activate so you'll be ok.

Did they ever sell WHS2011 as Retail, I though they were all sold as OEM

I often uncheck the activate immediately during install if I'm testing so will install fine. Have been experimenting in virtual machines to work out whether to use Media portal, plex, etc etc.

I've forgotten before and it's still activated without issue though assume this was because it have been a good few months since the original activation.
