why 2 step all off a sudden?

As andy says you've just hit 1000 posts and long enough for access to the members market which triggers the 2 step authentication as a way to help protect members market (we had several accounts that gotcompromised due to reuse of login details from other sites and tried to scam people).

I think there might be a way to lock yourself out of MM and thus not need the 2 step but i'm pretty tired at the moment and can't remember the details or if that was just something we looked at doing.

ok it makes sense now, yer i just noticed the for sale stuff this morning.

After you’ve enabled it, make sure you take a copy of your backup codes.
have done, i put them on a USB with the ones for my gaming accounts

At least you can do the OC authentification with an app - I use authenticator in chrome ;
EE want my relations to have a smartphone to get a 2fa code to access their account, like an ee account represents some significant security risk to them.
(haven't researched if the auth apps/that-one, are as secure , or if I could use it for lloyds/santander)
