I mean I can pass Orthos and Linpack with a FSB of 540Mhz but as soon as I load up a game, say NFS Carbon, It all runs fine untill the race is about to start then the game freezes then I get black screened.

Is the FSB unlocked after a certain point putting the PCI-E out of whack or is it something else?

Because your using the 3D Side of your CPU, Prime/Orthos use very specific parts of your CPU.

Look how even with your Single Core CPU (pure example) you could still surf the web and do other things without a delay during Prime/Orthos but if you were using your PC normally and something like Explorer decided to take 100% of your CPU the PC lagged and you had a delay opening any Window/App.

I have known many peeps inc myself over the years to pass Prime/Orthos and Memtest but fail in 3DMark or a game.

The likes of AMDBench v3 (years old now) was what I used to use to test my AMD CPU, it had CPU and GPU tests.

500Mhz is one helluva an overclock... I guess if you want to be stable at 540 then you'll have to upgrade your NB and SB cooling maybe?

If you think its your PCI-E freq have you tried changing it? dont know if you can with your baord but I have option to in my BIOS, Ive read that changing from 100 to 105 can make it more stable if this is a cause of instability, not sure tho tbh, havent had the need myself

thanks for your input :)

Yup i've tried raising the PCI-E frequency up to 110Mhz, still no joy. Looks like i'm stuck at 500Mhz then. Damn I should have just bought the PC8500 lol.
