Why Apple?

Why do apple never say when they are going to release something? They just release things out of the blue! Thanks to it I got conned with my iPod. I bought an iPod Nano 2nd generation and a week later the 3rd generation is out. I was so gutted I actually felt that Microsoft were better. Momentarily....

That's what Apple's good at, keeping us consumers guessing, hoping and wanting their items. Very good marketing tactic tbh.

More or less 2 big events to look out for before buying Apple's hardware, the WWDC in Winter and the MacWorld in the Summer. www.macrumor.com is also a good site to visit before buying something expensive: the buyer's guide shows an average update cycle for all hardware and you can then make a good judgement on when to buy.

It is by no means the law, it's only a rule of thumb.

Anyway, the 2nd Gen iPod is decent as a player if you don't want a "Fat"nano iPod that plays vids on a tiny screen. I have the fat nano and only got it because it was going cheap on MM. I personally prefer the 2nd gen because of the metalic casing, chrome back scratches too easily - had to pay an extra tenner for a protective case...

The reason is because if they said 3 months in advance that something was getting revised, nobody would buy it for 3 months and it would affect the sales.

This always makes me laugh because Apple want to start selling into the corporate enviroment because that is where the real money. But big companies like road maps release dates etc. None of this secret crap.

Should follow the rumour sites if your looking to buy something by Apple, I've been quite lucky so far with my purchases.

A lot of the time, if you buy something and something new comes out within a week or so they will replace it for you with the new item.

I prefer it. There's nothing worse than seeing a new product be unveiled and find you can't buy it for another 6 months.

Usually, Apple announce a product and you can buy it the same day. Although they have been slipping lately.

you didn't get conned. You bought what was offered to you, no one made you buy it. If it was really a week they would have let you chop it in for the new model with no fuss anyway.

I do understand why people find it frustrating, but 'conned' is not what happened.

If you bought it a week before the next model shipped then you could have sent it back and swapped it for the newer model.

I got a MacBook and a few months later *boom* a new model comes out that supports 4GB of RAm.

Never bothered me as my MacBook is great and one of the better purchases I have made!

With the addition of Exchange and Cisco VPN support to the iPhone in the 2.0 firmware it looks like Apple may be trying a bit more seriously to get into the business environment.

I have learned never to underestimate Steve Jobs.
