Why are "3 door" hatchbacks cool?

True, but this is actually an advantage when it comes to women as you can put the one you fancy in the front which results in lots of brownie points.

I also think "3 door" screams out "pooooor." I just think it looks retarded when you pull up somewhere and your mates have to slowly climb out the back, sorry - call me a snob or whatever

I purposefully bought a 5 door Focus because I hate getting in and out of the back of a 3 door. I was mocked by friends, but I don't hear them complaining when they all need lifts and can get in and out with ease and it means I don't have to get out each time I drop off someone who's sitting in the back.
Three doors are a pain in the rear (no pun intended), and despite there being "sporty hatchbacks" on the market, I still don't buy the opinion that removing two doors makes them look any more of a nice coupé.

It's always been like that. Even 5 door hotrods weren't cool until recently when original tin started running out.
Some people are so militantly against 5 doors though, to the point that they point them out in carparks and coming the other way on the road. Meh. I have far far far far far more important things to worry about than if Joe Schmo's car has 5 doors.
And for the love of god, why isn't it TWO and FOUR doors. One of them is the boot, or a hatchback. It doesn't even open the same way as the doors

It's a door becuase it provides access to the passenger compartment, whereas it does not on a Saloon.

One of Dad's cars is a 3dr and it's not used often and does look damn cool.
However, I couldn't live with a 3dr, I'm not a taxi, but reguarly carrying passengers, and when people are drunk it's far easier to have a 5dr than help them through the gap of a 3dr.
3dr = Looks sportier
5dr = convenience ease of use
5dr gets my vote every time

Couple of years back I gave my mates a lift home from a night out in December in a 3 Series Coupe instead of the Mondeo.
It was cool alright, but for all the wrong reasons. Standing outside your car, as the driver, at 2am when its -1c is lame.
With a 4/5 door this isnt an issue.
