I suspect a lot of them are just mock-ups too, like the sort you find around furniture shops. Question has already been answered though, it's because they look nicer, how incredibly overpriced they are is irrelevant.

99% of Advertising and Graphic Design agencies uses macs as said, its industry standard hardware and has the added bonus of looking much nicer than a normal LCD screen and tower

To get the point somewhat across:

I don't like or get on with them at all, but they certainly look nicer. I still think there's a niche in the PC market for stuff like this, Sony probably make some of the best quality and good looking machines.

Don't adverts (etc) have to pay to use any apple products?
I thought that was why they usually covered the logo?
Also the iPhone is turning up in loads of adverts too - including one for building supplies!!
(I like the pc anti virus add that uses a mac!)

Advertising, also I believe the BBC have a deal with Apple like they do berghaus.
Apple and BBC

On BBC documentaries if they use a pc you can bet it is an apple.

Depends on what you think looks good. Personally I think that Macs look like a slightly more grown up version of a Fischer Price "My First Computer".

Mass generalisation. Whilst Macs are ahead of the curve on the 'industrial' design look, there are a lot of very nicely designed PCs. Take the HP Blackbird for example, which is a stunning piece of engineering. The reason a lot of shows use Macs is because it's as much about the perceptual image of the company as it is about the actual look of the products on screen.

Macs are aspirational products. They fit into the same vein as fast cars or a nice house...people want to have them, even if they can't afford them.

I'm a graphic designer and I think the whole Macs thing is rubbish tbh, can't understand why everyone uses 'em, but at the end of the day, each to your own, use what you like best.

wow threads about any apple products really are not received well outside of the relevant forum sub section are they?

I believe the question asked was why are they used a lot in tv ads, which is somewhat being slowly answered.
