why are magic mushrooms illegal

Mushrooms is not for the weak minded or self conscious.

The first time i took mushrooms I had a bit of a freak out. I was on the dancefloor at a festival and I had white (beige) trousers on. On the way to the dance floor i was literally seeing cartoons in the trees. Some one said to me that i was glowing, well i thought they did. I looked down at my trousers and in the uv i was glowing. So i freaked out a bit and fell over a tree and wanted to go back to the tent, it was all a bit too much for me. As i was walking back to the tent I could not see anything as it was pitched black. I was walking behind someone in front of me who was on the path, i was following them as i could not see very well. Next thing i know i am standing by some tents and holding my head adn the girl is looking at me strange and asking me why i am following her. We both laughed and then i spent the rest of the night in the tent with my friends who had also taken mushrooms and came back to the tent.

And you want to call your mother and say: "Mother, I can never come home again 'cos I seem to have left an important part of my brain somewhere, somewhere in a field in Hampshire"

Yeah "doubt" as a figure of speech you will not "go crazy" off a single mushroom it wont even affect you.

Because I'm sure you've had a sip of beer (and a lot of beer) and can fully compare those effects so it makes it easier for you to understand what you've just said.

I totally agree, I doubt one will make you go crazy, but I also doubt people take just one.

And I fully understand what I said

man I hate arguing on the 'net :p

As with most things... they are banned due to fear.

Look at Mephedrone, that market begun in 2007, no one even knew what it was... then some tards get hold of it years down the line and mix it with Methadone and get it banned.

It's worth nothing that Mephedrone was also not linked to any deaths by itself, yet they still banned that due to media pressures and other crap.

Mushrooms are cool, again it takes respect to use them in a decent setting, idiots don't research and take too much and bring attention they don't deserve.

Best time on mushrooms... seeing jesus appear on my ceiling in a sea of aztec patterns. By mushrooms I obviously mean ones from Sainsburys and jesus must have been from a reflection of some sort.

:p

I once knew a guy that took mushrooms five days in a row, i think he did sleep, but i cant say for sure. But it ended up with him calling his mom at a local petrol station to come and pick him up. He said everyone's skin was a different colour, i can't remember which colour. The guy was freaking out big time and he ended up getting his stomach pumped at the hospital.

That's a bit retarded. You can't overdose on shrooms. Also taking them 5 days straight won't work too well... as tolerance builds EXTREMELY fast.

Again proof, idiots bring drugs too much attention by doing silly things.

I agree the guy was known for over doing it and over exaggerating stories.

Also I should also note pumping his stomach would do NOTHING to stop the drug. They would need to give him downers like Valium which would nullify the effects of the drug, again if he researched he would have known that ;).

You should tell your friend to make better stories if he wants to enter the "cool kids" club.

Well it did realy happen, there was witnesses. He definitely took too much mushrooms and he definitely phoned his mom and went to the hospital. When he got there they probably knocked him out as you said, but then as normal procedure with drug users they will pump the stomach to be sure.

But he probably could have just pushed through it, but if anyone phones their mom in such a state and ask for help, they will take you to the hospital. Stupid move too make imo. He probably could have just gone somewhere and take some valium as you said. But he was stupid.

Can someone please explain to me why psilocybin mushrooms have never killed anyone or made anyone insane yet they are class A drugs the same as heroin and crack cocaine, drugs that actually are addictive and kill people ? I truly belive they are a alien interface device placed on earth by aliens. why else would they be illegal ?

i had a full shake at mellow mountain, very spiritual experience. also opium is good but no where near as spiritual. i was there thailand/cambodia/laos a few weeks ago very nice place.

sounds like you answered your own question,

I've had really good times on them but I've had a few really bad times too (just like alcohol - but many times better/worse) its not something i'd recommend to most people if i'm honest. I can just imagine that if they were decriminalized someone would inevitably mess up on them and do something stupid and then there would be a public out roar that they were legal to collect/possess in the first place. This public outrage would just cause them to be banned again and the government would lose face. I just can't see or legalisation - let alone decriminalization - happening anytime soon.

However, I do ask myself, Does it really matter? its not as if the ban has ever stopped anyone from doing them haha. The police don't take it too seriously as there's just not enough of a public apatite for hallucinagenics at the moment to cause them to be a major issue and to cause outrage.

I don't mid that they are banned, and just for the record If I had my way society would restrict alcohol also - not necessary though legislation however but through finding a way to cut the appetite for drugs etc in the first place.

I don't know, why is marijuana illegal?

Slightly off topic - I'm not a smoker, nor am I a user of illegal drugs but I do recall sometime ago a friend of mine who is a habitual marijuana smoker telling me the most dangerous thing in the joint he is smoking is the tobacco and that as we all know is perfectly legal and heavily taxed!

Can anyone else confirm or deny if the above statement is true?

Back on topic:

They're illegal because you can't regulate their use.

Or is it because the government cant regulate their use?

Well i skipped over the last page of comments, far too late to read too much!

Well back in school i had some fresh picked shrooms from my gramps who had been out picking and boiled up a nice shroom tea (added robinsons for flavour :p) had a few cups of it and had an amazing night in, so visual and vivid! Did it a few more times that week and continued having them for a good few months and not once did i have any issues, just very visually fulfilling nights! The whole melting walls and hallucinating was an experience im glad i took! Something thats impossible to explain to others! Would i do it again? So long as i was the one picking them then yes!

The issue is that with alcohol you can feel yourself getting drunk, and most people can choose to stop before they have too much. It's a choice thing to drink more, and if you do something stupid because you're drunk then it's your responsibility because you should've stopped drinking before losing control.

Other drugs aren't quite so easy to control, once consumed that's it, you're on that trip whether you like it or not. That's why they are more dangerous.

If you drunk 100ml of alcohol in a go you would be along for the ride. It's not the drug it's the dosage.

So he fell asleep on the tube and woke up in Brixton? :p

why else would they be illegal ?
I think the law used to say that shrooms were legal as long as they hadn't been processed in any way. Apparently one police force was unsure of what would be considered "processed". Cooking, drying, freezing, refrigerating, picking, where do you draw the line? So they just decided to make them illegal to keep things nice and simple.

It seems stupid to me. They were a lot of fun and no more dangerous than any of the legal drugs on offer.

Ill give you a few hints.

The worth of a humans labour is paramount to the progression of the species, anything that has the potential to degrade the potential of it is deemed dangerous.

Alcohol and tobacco excluded for because of the various lobbyist groups and the general profit it gives in taxes negates the reason some what.

Id much rather simply legalise all drugs (bar the few ultra dangerous ones obviously) to save money and time in courts for more serious matters.

Of course the problem is that the US and so forth have imprisoned and fined far too many weed related incidents that it would be hard pressed to deal with the problems if they legalised it.

Compensation would be quite the number id imagine, so either way i doubt things will change soon.
