Why are my cores showing up as 100oC (HwInfo) after i set a temperature limit on the cpu???

cpuz stress test after setting a cpu temperature limit of 78oC in the bios

https://ibb.co/1L19053

Cores will only reach 4.7gh all core in the test.

cpuz stress test without the cpu temperature limit i set in the bios https://ibb.co/V276dYG

Yet in the bios it states this https://ibb.co/xYMbMH8 "set the maximum allowable temperature for cpu cores" it doesnt state anything about just the package temperature.

So are the readings wrong or am I missing something? I cant run my pc without a cpu temperature limit as the cpu temp will just keep rising.

It seems that hwmonitor was giving wrong readings, I used another temperature monitor and the temperatures of all the cores are indeed capped at 78oC and not just the package temperature.

tbh to get your turbo all core speed to remain that high in such a stressful test is pretty good, i'd be more than happy with that

Thanks :) The core speeds, they will hit 4.9ghz all cores in the test if I take the temperature cap off the cpu but I keep the cap on as it gets too hot in some games and has trouble staying under 80oC (the warm air it creates really needs to be directed out of the room - I will be moving my pc in the summer to a really good spot for this). But now it still manages to hit 4.9ghz in the stress test intermittently with a 78oC cap too so I'm happy with that!

The main issue is that it currently has no tau in place which is why it sticks at 4.9ghz all cores continuously in games but it only gets hot when in cpu intensive games, I could turn this off but then the cores would just drop to 4.2ghz after a minute so I think that it's best how it's running now (out of the box motherboard overclocked).

Package temp would just keep rising in cpu intensive games without the temp cap I enabled in the bios, it just needs two high speed exhaust fans instead of the ones I have and then I'm pretty sure (after some calculations I've made - double the cfm) that it will keep the temps around 75oC in cpu intensive games without having to cap the cpu temperature. But then theres the toss up between fan noise or just leaving it as it is and at the moment I'm happy with it intermitently hitting 4.9ghz in it's current settings with quieter fan noise :)

That's boosting nicely now, is this a 5800x?

Mine only boosts to 4.85 and reaches 84 degrees, no overclocking or using the curve optimiser though.

It's a 10900k. Reaches 83oC in this stress test and about 80 to 83 in high cpu intensive games. If I want it to stay below 80oC without a cpu temp cap in place I'll need a couple of Arctic bionoiX f140 fans to get rid of the heat (combined cfm of 200cfm) my current exhaust fans are about 115cfm. But I'm happy with how it's performing. There aren't any games that it isn't overkill for at 144fps. If anything most game engines choke their selves before this cpu would be an issue.

It's not over locked but the tau times have been removed which forces the cpu to run at all core top speed continuously when in a game.
