Why are my temps so bad?

I'm trying to figure out what's causing my pc to run stupidly hot. I understand the case isn't the best for being cool but I should be able to run what I am currently running comfortably non the less. Maybe my fans are the problem? Maybe the design of them or speed or both may be the problem. Do I need channelling fans non channelling fans etc etc? I have no idea need some advice.

GPU - When I play BF3 my GTX 480 runs at 105C! Even with the Zalman cooler at about half speed because anything above that it's too audible and even then it's the loudest thing in my case by a mile.

CPU - My CPU under prime for 15 minutes reaches 84C! It's a 2500K @4.2 ghz with 1.25V. The real core temps all reach the lower 90's.

Even when I then go back to letting my pc idle it takes a long long time for the temps to return to normal. The CPU cooler a Corsair H70 takes a long time to be cool to touch as does the Zalman VF3000 gpu cooler.

Are my fan's basically so slow they're doing nothing? I do like my system as close to silent as possible but is this an unrealistic expectation?

Here's a pic of my setup.

what temps are you getting at idle? whats your ambient/room temp?
and what settings are you running BF3 at?

GPU Idle temp varies from 38C-51C

CPU Idle temp from around 32-37C

Room temp i'm guessing around 21-23C

BF3 top settings all @1080p

I want the system to run cool enough with the GPU maxxed out and CPU maxxed out. No point building a system otherwise right?

I'm not expert on this, but which the graphics card, maybe there's not much airflow around it? Maybe the reference cooler would do better by exhausting the hot air out the top?

CPU, I'm not sure, are both the fans going in the same direction? Maybe the GPU is warming the air up so much the CPU cooler isn't able to cool effectively?

You maybe right on the GPU however the reference cooler is stupidly loud i'd rather replace the graphics card then use that again.

As for the CPU I ran prime before testing the GPU. So it's only the CPU being stressed on that test. The fans are pointing the right way however when I put my hands on the exhaust I can hardly feel a thing.

Off the top of my head i would say your running BF3 on too a setting for your GPU to handle, try lowering the settings, because your GPU will be causing all the overheating probs.

Also that case looks a bit cramped for good air-flow, but some better fans could sort that problem, ie GT 1500`s.

Could you put arrow on pic showing what direction fans are blowing?

edit: :confused:I'm dumb so could you also put arrow where air enters case.

Looks like the case is not allowing good cooling of you GPU maybe you can find some way of putting another fan in pointing towards your GPU.

"SilverStone's engineers have produced a stunningly unique and very attractive piece of kit in the FT03. It's one of their crown jewels and justifiably so: the FT03 has excellent thermal design, decent noise with the stock fans at stock speed, and if you're into the minimalistic look it's frankly just plain nice to look at."

Hmm maybe it's the fans?

air on the rad should be coming from the out side of the case as it will be cooler air than in your case.

need a new case by the looks of it. the gtx480 has no room to move the air

It doesn't make sense. Mate did one of these.. HTPC/gamer.. Oc'ed and all with no problems. Check your cooler fans to make sure they are both blowing up. I know it sounds stupid, but have seen stranger things happen. And if that is the problem give us some other excuse. ;)

Not an option here. Case should be bringing in enough are with 2 fans to supply both CPU and GPU with cooling.

A EPIC mistake on my behalf... I wasn't taking your guys suggestions seriously about checking the directions of the fans because I've been building computers for years and I couldn't imagine I'd make such a stupid mistake... Well I was wrong.

I check the top of the case where the exhaust fan is to see that I can see the Sharkoon logo of my fan. Then it hit me I've got the fan the wrong way round! All the other fans are setup correctly but I had the exhaust fan of my H80 pointing towards the other fan. Needless to say this made all the difference.

My CPU at load now is 56C and real core temps of 62-67C for all cores. My GPU has dropped from 105C at load to 85C. Which is good considering it's a GTX 480 and most reviews do the fan at full speed where as I've got it closer to middle. Glad I don't have to change my GPU or fans anymore.

I told you to make up some excuse so we wouldn't... oh never mind.:D

Main thing is it's now sorted and working as it should.:D
