Why are there 3 additional chassis fans listed in HWMonitor?

Hi guys, I've just noticed that HWMonitor shows chassis fans 4,5 and 6. However, my motherboard only has 3 "chassis fans".

This is my mobo - link -> TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI)
This is my CPU Cooler - link -> kraken x63

CHA_FAN 1 : upper rear 120mm fan
CHA_FAN 2 & 3 : 2 front PWM 140mm fans
CPU_FAN & AIO_PUMP: Kraken x63

I'm just wondering what could be causing this, as I'm trying to see why number 4 is running at a much higher RPM than the others. Ideally, I'd like to tell no. 4 & 5 to chill out a bit.

Anyone able to shed some light on this?

Cheers

HWMonitor has always been a bit glitchy detecting fans - it used to randomly find 1-2 fans doing silly speeds like 65,000 RPM awhile back.

Infact it is detecting a non-existent fan on my setup with a max speed of 337500 RPM LOL and value of 10-30K.

I think the problem is that motherboard manufacturers rarely work properly to standard for fans.

The controller on that board supports 7 fans, cpu + 6 case fans, so it's likely that. I guess hwinfo either isnt or cant read the correct number of fans from the controller, only the maximum. If you know they're not connected, just ignore them :)

It’s double up on the fan read outs.

if you look at the RPM they are exact replicate of the first set of fans.

Ahh okay, yeah makes sense that

Wow haha, yeah makes sense, seems like it's a combination of the mobo and hwmonitor doing their best to be helpful.

Cheers for the help guys.
