Why Are There No Graphics Cards To Be Had?

Put the PC on this morning to find no picture on the monitor. Checked monitor okay, MSI GTX1650 purchased May last year (not from OCUK) must have gone kaput. Dug my old GTX1050 out of the box in the garage, swapped in and working okay.
Decided to look for a GTX1650 Super about the best my old Z87 motherboard can take but nothing anywhere. OCUK shop shows “coming soon” but no date or price as does any other vendor. Guess I’m stuck with a degraded gaming experience for the foreseeable future. Presumably I would face the same issue if I ordered a new box with a RTX30xx unless of course any cards which do come off the production line are being reserved for new builds.

There's plenty of graphics cards out there to buy just so long as your prepared to 2x/3x over there MRSP. Even old 2nd cards are selling for what they cost new.

Think I will make do for now then. Obviously Covid has played a part interrupting manufacturing and distribution but I can still go out and buy a new washing machine or microwave if it breaks!

There isnt the same demand for washing machines or microwaves - you cant mine on them...

I think you should RMA the card as Thekwango says - you might end up with something better than you have now.

edit - you posted the thing about 1/12 refund as I was writing my reply. How do you know you'll only get 1/12?

It’s not that covid had broken down the supply chain.

It seems covid has made people want more chips than before.

I would contact for a RMA like other said. There has been cases where people got a better card

Thought about that but if there are no replacements all I’m going to get is a 1/12 refund. May try it though just to see if I get lucky.
Manufacturers always keep stock around for RMA purposes. You may even get a free upgrade out of it, should they not have the exact model to hand. MSI upgraded my GTX 460 to a GTX 570 once upon a time, since they didn't have any stock of the former.

Well I have contacted the vendor wait and see. The 1/12 was pure speculation on my part based on pro rata use, but on reflection warranty is warranty.

Every retailer has to guarantee the products they sell for 12 months. You'll get a replacement, full refund or store credit if you ask for it.

He may get one of those things but for faulty goods over six months old the burden is on the customer to prove the fault was present at the time of purchase. The retailer can offer a partial refund if the cost of repairing or replacing the item is too onerous.

Lame. Consumer rights and eBay protection is not what it used to be.

Nothing heard as yet but as per the most recent responses above, my initial posts were guided by those exact sentiments - i.e. an 11 month old well used part. If I end up having to pay for return shipping could end up actually out of pocket.

Oh well, if nothing else I have actually learned something this morning as first I'd ever heard of crypto mining - still can't quite work out how a GPU helps in finding a Bitcoin deal...

Did you register the card with the manufacturer?
Also, I have never had an issue returning anything PC wise with regards to fair wear and tear. These things either work or they do not. If the manufacturer tells you to go back to the seller (has happened to me on a motherboard) then they must refund you the full amount/store credit within a year. As my last RMA was not in stock, I was offered store credit against another MB.
Not sure how you can have wear and tear on a discreet graphics card.

Been wondering the same thing. Loads of retailers have been putting cards up - just not OCUK for some reason.

I wanted to buy mine here, but they never have any in stock, so had to go to a different retailer.

probably an unwillingness to sell too many cards at inflated prices as it does damage their image. OCUK don't mind the odd gouge but when competitors are listing £799 for an in-stock 6700XT (Lawl) I can't blame OCUK for holding back some stock and selling them in batches.
