Ive been on the forums for almost 3 months and learnt a great deal but one thing i still dont understand is vista 32 bit, i think some people have said not all software worked on xp 32 but it appears the only probem with vista 64 now is that older hardware has fewer drivers that support it, why cant they just releas one version of windows and then software and drivers would only need one version? is there something i've missed? thanks guys

64-bit has, in the past, suffered from lacklustre driver and software support, meaning that 64-bit users faced a bit more trouble. These days though, driver and software support is pretty-much just as good as Vista x86 (the 32-bit version).

One of the reasons for not just having the 64-bit version is that although virtually all PCs sold these days have 64-bit CPUs, that wasn't the case when Vista was launched. It was around the same time as Intel's Core Duo came out, which was 32-bit only. Plus they'd have been denying a lot of P4 users the ability to upgrade (although one wonders how many actually did upgrade to Vista on those systems).

It's taken far too long for OEMs to start shipping 64-bit Vista with their systems though. Hopefully that all changes with Windows 7.

The majority of the vista sales is still 32 bit I think, every laptop comes with 32 bit really.
And aye, some people use vista on a cpu that doesn't support 64 bit.
And many people don't know or give a nickle how many bits their windows is, they just say ''0mG dud3 i got vista it suxx baaad''.

Intel's Core Duo came out, which was 32-bit only. Plus they'd have been denying a lot of P4 users the ability to upgrade (although one wonders how many actually did upgrade to Vista on those systems).
Say what ?

Afaik all core duo's have em64t. ( EDIT: hmm I'm wrong, yonah cores indeed don't seem to have em64T)
some p4's have it tho: 6 series p4's or something they all have em64t.

lol youre probably right, i was shocked (momenterily before i remembered the scum that microsoft is) that they charge for the 64 disk (and on another note cds if you dont have a dvd reader) unless you get ultimate which comes with both disks
it's all about that extra billion dollars at then end of the year......
