Why are we getting such bad ports?

Yup, agree, getting fed up with all the crap ports from consoles now, although BC2 wasn't that bad, it's one of the good ones along with the COD series.

It is the games which are obviously lazy ass ports done by the money grabbing developers, which limit the god damn FPS to 30, don't give you enough choice of settings i.e. either low, medium or high, nothing like shadows, textures, lighting, AA and AAA etc. etc. and especially ones where you can't even customize the key bindings

Valve need to bring half life 3 out (developed purely for PC) and let the companies see that the PC gaming community is very much alive and kicking, who knows maybe more so than the consoles as I know that a lot of people don't buy certain games for the PC due to them being poor ports etc.

Consoles always get first priority :(

. Can monitors with high input cause mouse lag?

iirc monitors that use a lot of (*i want to say dithering but iirc that's colour, i can't remember the name of the trick) to achieve "zomg 1 ms response time" have loads of problems with mice and colour quality.

but people still buy them thinking it will make them better.

Tis a shame but the problem is only going to get worse and worse. I'm suprised company's like ........... ATI / nVidia, Steam well just about everyone as gaming is the single biggest reason to keep the upgrade scene alive, isn't doing more to stop this all from happening. PC gaming is going niche.

I think I have been lucky with the ports I have played (ME2, JC2, Batman AA), all run perfectly fine on my machine.

Is Blur a port? That runs sweet as well.

Yes its not been all bad. Batman AA, Metro 2033, Mass Effect 1 & 2 have all been in some way console ports or at least developed at the same time as the console version..... Large parts of the game would be used across both platforms, so not all console ports or PC games are poor console ports etc....

Wasn't Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2 also better on PC, higher textures and better AA levels etc..? I don't know not played them on PC.

I complained about f1 2010, but the graphics are better on PC then PS3..

steam = valve and valve games aren't ports so dunno how you accuse them of not doing anything.

I always fire up Half Lfe 2 to remind me of how good valve are at making excellent PC games... After 6 years Valve updated the game to the new engine (i think) and added new features and it still holds its own to this day.

Such an amazing game, many said the graphics were not that amazing, but I disagree. It looks just as good as any console game does today....

In fact I fired up HL2 last night and had a quick blast, with a 360 gamepad option as well... lol PC gaming eh? always changing...!!:p

Try playing HL2 on day of release with achievements, HDR lighting and a gamepad..!!

Its a bad port mate. its all over the place. any pc game which comes with bad mouse lag is a bad port in my eyes. Mouse is a basic control that they should get right out of the box.

BC2 runs fantastic on my PC and is superior to the console versions in every way and i'm running it on a three year old GPU

Your PC has issues

Same goes for Batman AA and Just Cause 2

Both run fantastically well and look and run a lot better than the console counterparts both are from Eidos. There are certain companies to avoid IMO

Try the cinematic mod v10 (you need ep 1 +2 though)

looks amazing, also you need 6gb + of ram and an x64 os iirc :p

I was quite surprised with Batman AA. I'd already played the game to completion on the PS3, and was about to give it another run through but then the game came up for sale on Steam.. £9.99 for the GOTY edition.. Cranked the game up to 1920 x 1080 with max details etc... It did look very nice, and played superb using a gamepad.

Same goes for COD4 MW. I'd again played it through on the PS3, sub HD I might add. Apparently that game on the PS3 wasn't even 720p, but anyhow another game to pop up in a Steam sale... Part of the COD pack for £40.

1920 x 1080 max details max AA extreme textures etc... Again, it looked very good but I couldn't play it with a gamepad. so went and get a decent keyboard to play it, you could tell the difference..

I don't think its all bad, but as said some games best to avoid.

Bc2 isn't a particularly bad port.... all the battlefield games have been very buggy, it's got more to do with the developers programming skills, than anything to do with consoles. The random crashes to desktop have always been a "feature" of Dice games for lots of players.

What about all the excellent ports that nobody has mentioned? I've bought a few on steam recently..... stuff like Batman AA, Just cause 2, and resident evil 5 have all been perfect........ and much better than their console counterparts.

Erm... x64 o/s - check. ep 1 + 2 - check. 6GB Ram - oh oh..!! lol

edit good news it's 4gb recommended :D

Has anyone tried it? I'm a bit confused as to why i've never seen it before

there's dozens of threads on here for cinematic mod going right back to v3 :p

and yeah it's a mazing, the music is epic too.

hl2 is 6 years old now

Gotta love modders :p

But he hasn't just changed textures he modded the actually levels to be better/accommodate more stuff now computers can support it.

I remember the days when PC games were ported to console that shouldn't have been. Remember when Starcraft came out for N64??? lol

Having said that, I have enjoyed some obvious ports, namely Assassins creed and Batman AA. For multiplayer though, most console ports are bad.

Thats why i dont upgrade at the moment. As a gamer i feel second best. I dont want a console. I love my pc gaming. I just wish they would do something about it.

Your playing the wrong games.

If you want a proper PC racing game you should have bought one of the following:

rfactor
iRacing
Live For Speed (NOT NEED FOR SPEED :p)
Richard Burns Rally
GTR Evolution
Race 07

rFactor2 is out next year as well, instead of moaning about bad ports why don't you guys buy proper PC games?

The amount of mods out for these games is eye watering, yet you buy the biggest console racers, doesn't make sense to me...
