As you have probably guessed, this is more of a rant than anything!

I have been using wireless keyboards for about 8 years, and every single one has had range problems. I've bought cheap £20 KMB sets and £60 KBM sets and many in between. Why do they all have connection issues even at about 30cm range? Except sometimes if they're in the mood they're happy at 3m+ range?

I've been to uni during this time so lived in a variety of houses and I never seem to have reliable connection; I'm always moving the reciever around or moving the keyboard around the desk to find the good connection.

What is it that makes wireless tech so bad, even after 8 years?

Can I ask? What is the point of a wireless keyboard? Mice, I get, the cable is annoying when you move the mouse around... but keyboards... what is the benefit of wireless?

Depends on the wireless type , Bluetooth seems to be about the best , although I'm no expert on what's what . The cheaper receivers use radio frequency which often are suceptable to interference

I have enough wires sort-of on show on my desk (and far too many tangled behind my desk) what with my monitor video, monitor power, speaker input, Speaker Power, speaker to speaker...

My reasons at the moment however are that I am trying to make a bedroom gaming PC, but the wireless can't reach about 1.5m (through the TV). Other wireless technology (wifi, phone signal) isn't be flummoxed by 1.5" of plastic and electronics, but both my bluetooth and normal wireless keyboard can't manage it :(

Because you've purchased rubbish. I've had 3x Logitech DiNovo sets with my last one being the edge, never had any range or connection issues, solid as a rock.

Must admit I had a few Microsoft Ergo wifi units and they would all lag or cut out here and there.

At work, I needed something wireless and PC World had the logitech K360's for a tenner and I took a punt on them. Good enough for work and its never cut out once and still on the same batteries 2 years later. Also being used with a Logitech Performance MX with a unifying receiver.

Shame the MS Sculpt wasn't the same, work has had 5 of them and all went back as they would lose connections left right and centre.

For home though as the PC is a gaming rig and is pretty much used for this purpose, laptop for anything else so I don't get distracted by the games when I should be writing policies for work xD I will just use wired keyboards and mice.

I've always had problems with wireless keyboard/mice. Until the last one I purchased. I never had any issues whatsoever. The only downside is the USB receiver is so small. So when I was at my parents last Christmas, my brother accidentally knocked it off the window shelf and we never found it again. It either fell in the bin and went out with the rubbish or it's around somewhere in my old room.

Anyhow, if people actually know of a good wireless keyboard, please post recommendations. I'd post the one I had, but it's a competitor branded product.

I use a wireless k&m for the PC in the living room as it's connected to the TV which has no desk, so I can sit on the sofa with no cables :)

That's the only use I could ever imagine myself having for one.

I suppose it could de-clutter the desk a bit by having no wires?
