Does anyone know why there aren't demos of these games on PSN? I can't buy games without evaluating them first. Heavenly sword had a demo. Loved the demo and bought the full game.

Same with Burnout Paradise and Formula 1.

They both had betas instead, which weren't too hard to get onto. If you don't want to risk it without a demo, just wait until they drop in price.

Alternative is to rent the games.

This is the way!

Some games just dont work as demos, i can't imagine a LBP demo as the key thing about it is the variety of levels and the ability to make your own (which you really need to play through the main game to get the best of) therefore a demo wouldn't give a good representation of the game!

the other problem is why the psn games dont have demos... a whole load of new ones came out recently all around £7-8 and theres hardly any info about on them... are we expected to just buy stuff based on the title and a picture? lol

they should at least have a streaming trailer in the description box or something :/

I didn't intend to "troll". I was just implying that your "Its not just the PSN" sentence made it look like the original poster was saying the PSN was worse than Xbox/Wii marketplaces in regards to demos.

Hence the ;)

I thought he was implying that a lot of big games don't have demos on live either

Indeed, or across any platform for that matter.

A game is never forced to have a demo, and more often than not it's the really big titles that don't.

Ah fair enough. I just didn't see that the OP was interested in other platforms as he was talking (with the exception of Burnout Paradise, which got a demo I'm sure) about PS3 exclusives.

Doesn't really matter if he is only interested in PS3 demos or not - fact is not all games, regardless of platform, get demos.

I understand the issue, I often buy games purely on the demo

That said it has an adverse effect, I didn't buy the full game because I had burnt myself out on the beta of CoD WaW

Ive never quite understood why some games dont have demos. Surely its a great way for people to get a taste of your game and then want a whole lot more. I can't imagine it takes an awful lot of work to make a demo.

Things like Gears, Halo and as mentioned LBP and R2. The only thing i can really think of is that you dont think people will want to buy it after playing a demo .... but its usually always the big titles so that doesnt make much sense.

No, you could just do some research on the internet and then decide. Not a biggy really.

i did, hence me saying "theres hardly any info about on them"

i had to go through several websites just to find out what genre of game crash commando was... id much prefer it if they had a demo to try, wouldnt you agree?

I'd love a demo for every game. Problem is they aren't as simple for developers to create as people assume. It's not just a matter of plonking a load of existing files on a server and having people download it.

Even though they use existing parts of games, extra parts need to be created, and after all that, the whole thing still needs to be certified by MS/Sony seperate to the actual game.

With the tight schedule that studios try to hit at the moment, I can see why some would put making a demo at the bottom of the list of priorities.

More demo's would be great, but not essential as far as I'm concerned.
