Why can I see two 3mobile networks on my phone

I am on the 3 network myslef.

If I search for available networks, I can see most of the usual suspect Vodaphone, 02 - UK , T - mobile UK and 3 is listed twice. I am only able to select one of the 3 networks, for the other one I am told my sim is not registered.


So what is the second 3 network? ( mislabled Orange/EE perhaps?)

Could be the network 3 users roam to outside of 3G, which is Orange/EE.

That's exactly it. The SIM can control what the label for a network says by overriding it (if it's pre-programmed). You're probably looking at one of the last sites where the extending agreement is left as three were trying to get rid of most of them. Same technology is why MVMOs say "Virgin" when in reality it's t-mo etc..
