I have a Asus ROG Swift PG279Q Monitor.

Playing Red Dead 2 recently the game defaulted to 3840 x 2160 pixels.

I was thinking about getting a 2080 Ti to try and play at 60FPS at 4K resolution. Will i be able to do this or does my monitor not support 4K gaming?

Online it shows 2560 x 1440 WQHD as my highest resolution for this monitor.

Secondly, what would be the best upgrade to max out this monitor on something like Red Dead 2?

Is it worth buying a 2080Ti or would a 5700xt be sufficient?

Some games support an upscaling downscaling thing, I can't remember what its called... :p

Can you select 4K as a resolution in windows? If so its probably a driver issue.

it’s a feature called “virtual 4K” and it’s designed to help accommodate modern games consoles and external media devices really.

With the screen being able to accept a 4K input source you can use one of those external devices at 4K, and the screen will then just scale that down to the panel native 2560 x 1440. That is a better option than the screen only accepting 1920 x 1080 input (since those external devices don’t output 1440p) and having to scale that up to the screens resolution.

there would be zero benefit it doing it from a pc which is capable of outputting 1440p properly. In fact it would just impact negatively your system resources and frame rate, and would probably also have a worse Picture quality as you’re then adding scaling in to the mix unnecessarily
