"why cant i game on vista?"

Because it's **** right now. You're probably better off trying XP or Linux if you wanna do it for free. :)

It's not Vista,I have loads of Steam based games installed on my Vista x64(TFC,CS,DoD etc..) so ignore all the stupid previous comments.

I would like to know what onboard graphics chip you have in your laptop?

how do i run it in windows xp compatability mode?

I don't need to run XP Compatibility or Admin mode on mine,I presume you installed Steam?

Just right click on Steam icon or the one in the folder and select properties, then compatibility tab.

Make sure your laptop onboard graphics/video chip has latest driverrs etc....

RUBBISH :)

Been on vista here for a while and have no problems gaming.
To op its probably driver related, installed all the correct vista drivers ? chipset, graphics etc ?

I'll let him off that comment because he has the best sig on the forums. :D ;)

Seriously though, if you run an ATi card, Vista is just as good to game on as XP.

Thanks :D I was a little harsh I guess.

I guess I haven't had must luck with vista, but with time (and drivers) I'm sure it will come good.

FWIW, CS:S is known to run quite well under linux, but it is also a right PITA to set up. Easiest (and best) solution for me right now has gotta be XP. If yer gonna go for Windows 3.11 tho, it's gonna have to be Doom 2 or something... :o :D

"why cant i game" is a bit of loose topic

what exactly happens, do you have problems installing ? does the game crash on you ? do you get permissions errors ?

LOL...
