Why Can't I Get Surround Working

Nah it'll be fine with an adapter.

Disable the bottom card in Task Manager and then plug them all into card 1. Try to span the displays in the nVidia drivers.

It's odd regarding the red screen. Did you do a clean install?

notice in his photo above the first monitor doesnt have 1 of 3 next to it, that looks like the issue, not sure how to fix it though.

Heres mine without surround configured atm, the Samsung is my TV in the other room. It still shows 1 of 1/2/3 as if they are ready to link.

different model of monitor is the only difference I can see?

I'd disconnect the XL24 and try and Span the 2 remaining monitors in single card mode and then SLI

The 1 of 3 etc comes when the monitors are the same model.

I'm out of ideas.

Well there's something up with the third monitor then. Does it turn off but but it's still active? As in if you move your mouse over there does it move out of display?

It sounds like it thinks it's being forced into a display mode it can't run hence turning off.

Seems to be working fine. I've tried swapping over the two secondary monitors ie 2 1 3 and 3 1 2 but have the same problem. I have a spare 2420BL, I might try three of the same and see if that works.

Disconnect the different model monitor and configure surround with the 2 identical monitors 1x DVI from each 680 @ 3840x1080 or whatever the res works out at and see if it works.

If yes then disconnect 1 of the monitors and connect back up the different model one and try again.

If it spans with 2 identicals and doesnt with 2 different, you have your answer.

I shall give that a go.

would imagine its a driver issue as nvidia say -

Nvidia said:
In 2D Surround, any combination of monitors that share common timings is perfectly acceptable, though each must have, at minimum, one DVI, HDMI, or DisplayPort connector. Aesthetically, identical monitors are preferable, but not a requirement.
In 3D Vision Surround, each monitor must be an identical make and model, and you must use three matching digital connectors. We will go into detail below, but you may need additional adapters for this.
The Accessory Display, the forth monitor, does not have to be identical to the three Surround displays, but does require one of the three possible connectors.

surround is flaky to say the least with certain driver sets, try a few before you rule out drivers

Yes. Try that :).

I know it's a pain but unfortunately nVidia don't like Surround users that much at the moment and the support for it is a little shaky. It either works or it doesn't.

It works OK for me fine but when I try to go back to extended desktop mode I have to re-do the bezel correction. Also while disabling SLI sometimes it gets stuck and both cards get disabled in Device Manager leaving me with a black screen....

What are you doing to require this?

My three monitors are permanently in Surround mode and I haven't had to re-do bezel correction once.

This is how my set-up currently looks:

My windows snap to a single screen when running non 3D apps, and span when in game (or anything that is 3D accelerated). Essentially I have extended mode for normal use and spanned mode for gaming. I don't do anything to "switch" between modes, thus I am slightly confused why you would need to "switch" back to extended mode.

You do have the option to snap windows across all three screens (spanned), this can just be made out in my screen print above. (Nvidia Control panel > Desktop > Surround Displays > Maximize Windows Across All Displays)

You haven't had to re-do the bezel correction because you're in surround 24/7.

Because I don't want to run in Surround 24/7 and prefer to run extended desktop. There's no issue with staying in Surround but the desktop looks stupid with any Theme I've tried when in Surround.

Surround doesn't have the same functionality as extended.

I also dont keep mine in surround but my reason is I clone screen 2 my main and 4 my TV in the other room so I can start a game off and go and sit in the comfort of the lounge.

You can however set custom back grounds with a little prog called DisplayFusion :)

Still haven't had any luck but after looking at this it could be my DVI cables that are causing the problem. They are all dual link but different brands. I'll pick up two new dual links to put on my secondary monitors and see if that fixes the problem.

Interesting, I han't noticed any functionality that I normally use to be missing in Surround. What functionaility are we talking about?
