Howdy,

Bit of a stupid post this, but I want to air this and see if anyone else is the same as me?

Now I have 4 TFT's in the house:

  • 19" (1280x1024)
  • 21" (1600x1200)
  • 24" (1920x1200)
  • 30" (2560x1600)

My current monitor is the 30" Dell 3007 which is a beaut! My PC spec isn't the best, but its good enough for now at gaming, and it does play the latest games at its native res of 2560x1600 pretty darn good, but not perfect. But playing games at 1920x1200 on my old Dell 2407, it plays them pretty much perfectly.

Now I happily played games at 1920x1200 on my 2407 for ages and it was great, now I have upgraded, if I tell my GeForce not to scale my resoultions and play at 1920x1200 on my 3007 I just cant play it? I mean it works, just I can't stick it out? It shows the game at the same size as my old 2407 so what the difference?

Is anyone else like this? I mean running at 2560x1600 is pretty resource hogging, so knocking the res down really does improve games performance, just for some odd reason having those black borders round the 3007 makes a difference from playing at the same res on a 2407 and have the Dell casing round the edge of the display instead? Must be a psychological thing right?

Jeeze,
What a spec mate!

Only thing I could suggest would be getting a quad CPU and getting a second 8800 GTX for SLI for that rez on a 30"

Edit: or wait for the next gen NV card around November.
2nd Edit: Even the 1GB 2900. GFX memory has got to make a lot of difference at that resolution.

HTH,
Cambofrog

Does your dell 30" have an option in the menu to fill the screen instead of 1:1 ??

Edit: Sorry....Just noticed my dell 24" fill option is greyed out when using DVI..

no OSD on the 3007 unfortunately, Dell removed it, and you can only control that via a Dell machine

I don't like stretching the res, it looks naff. I wish I had more room on the desk to plonk my 2407 too, but I dont. Great having a huge monitor for winodws, not so good for games :)

Sell the 19 and 21 inchers, and use the funds to buy a bigger desk so you can run the 30 and 24 inchers alongside each other! :)
