Why can't you change aperture in live view?

Using a D7000 I've just realised that when I've been recording videos in live view, the aperture is not at the setting it was set to, and then discovered that the only way for me to change the aperture in live view or when shooting video is by using the aperture ring on my lens.

If I can change the aperture using the ring and the liveview works just fine, why can the camera not change aperture itself using the aperture lever?

Certainly makes me glad I just bought an f/1.4D lens rather than the newer more expensive G ones with crippling feature removals, yet another reason to be thankful I bought a camera with an AF motor too.

You can change aperture on the D800 + D4. You can't on the D600, however I believe a firmware update is scheduled to resolve this for the D600. I doubt the D7000 however will be updated.
