Why couldn't R5 Live provide live commentary of the Merseyside Derby?

Colin Murray made a comment that they weren't allowed to provide live coverage, yet BBC Radio Merseyside was.

Was it Sky hogging the rights or something else?

I was looking forward to listening to the match whilst sorting out the garden and doing a few bits of gardening.

Local radio has the right to commentate on all local games (ie: BBC Merseyside).

Talksport purchased exclusive rights for national radio coverage of 52 prem games. This was one of them, so radio 5 couldn't cover it.

Ah, right, I didn't realise TS did any live matches.
