Why did apple not buy a stake into sharp. Samsung just bough 3% into them.

Just hope sharp doesnt get taken over completely by samsung or we be getting there crappy screens back into the ipads etc

3% is not a controlling interest so samsung will theoretically have no say in who they do business with. I guess it does help samsung lever some influence by getting some insider information into the company though.

Bear in mind samsung currently leads the way in super sharp screens. I noticed have even from 5+ years ago they've always had these super bright sharp screens.

Not Really Samsung use to do all screens for iPad and iPhone and they were the Yellow Gate screen that why Apple now use Sharp and LG in the latest batch I believe

oh i got it, samsung fighting back.

Apple is a crap company, hate them with a passion now.

They're like all technology companies - they are a one hit wonder and then just fail to keep up with their success.. Like [name removed] used to be good at one point - then they just became too expensive and their "customisations" were just bloated and mostly unnecessary. You can customise and buy a £900 [name removed] computer, but then you can also just buy an ready built computer with the same specs from a different brand for £700 or less.

Apple did well with their iphone created a new buttonless phone which was fast and paved the way for the new generation of phones (although being an owner of a sony ericsson p900 - the technology was already there, Apple just took it to the masses). But now they're lagging behind and have a stranglehold over their user base with the restrcitive policies and unwillingness to innovate and produce phones that break the barriers.

They took forever to roll out stuff like copy and base from different apps for instance.

sounds to me like you just dont like samsung :)

not sure youre 100% correct there mate

Correct, my wife, a bit of an apple sheep unfortunately, she currently has an iphone 5, i hate it and every iphone since the 3GS. They are too controlling and thats why they give the impression of being the real Umberella Corp.

In fact ive a Samsung LCD... I like them but Samsung were letting apple down a year or so ago.

I had a Samsung tv it was ****e so i replaced it with an LG, i also had and LG mobile phone and it was ****e so i replaced it with a Galaxy S and then the S3.

The point im trying to make is these firms make loads of products and cant be the best at all of them so if Apple sacked off Samsung screens cos they "were letting them down", like you say, surely it makes sense for Samsung to buy into a company that knocks the ball out the park in the screen department.

I love how liking an Apple product makes you a sheep.

Does liking the SGS3 make you a "Fandroid" by comparison, or would you be willing to accept the shocking phenomenon that different people like different things?

Why would you hate a company with a passion exactly? What makes you think they're unwilling to innovate? Who's making phones which 'break the barriers' these days?

Would hardly refer to Apple as a 'one hit wonder' lol

I had no idea the P900 had a multitouch capacitive touch screen. You learn something every day.

p900 had apps and was a touchscreen phone with a full browser, the multi touch is just there because its the only way to zoom in without any buttons. I dont think multi touch is paticulary good, it forces you to use two hands to do a job designed for one hand, the p900 had a side zoom button that did what you wanted.

capsctiive technology isnt new to the iphone

It didn't.
I had one and it was a normal resistive touchscreen with a stylus. Nor did it have multitouch. No phone had a capacitive touchscreen in 2003 when the SE P900 was released

The LG Prada was the first phone with a capacitive touchscreen in early 2007

Not sure where you're getting your info from Golf1.6........

Baaaaa i can call my wife what i like, i have many names for her for all different occasions, most of them would get "*" out on here ;)
She is a sheep because she wont even look at another handset be it BB, Nokia, LG etc etc, just wants latest iphone every year, and just to be in with the crowd, the only thing she uses it for is the GROUPON app and her Peter Andre album lol, even i will admit Apple deserve better.

Maybe a little bit, but only because iOS doesn't offer me what i need if i could put Android on the iPhone 5 i would get one in a heart beat because IMHO as a handset its beautiful, but for me with iOS its an over priced fashion accessory
They just want the screens to keep flowing, they don't give a crap about having a controlling share.

100% correct

They'll release the iPanel soon and everyone will go "WOOW why were TVs not like this sooner?"

Yeah and every year they bring out a slightly wider one with a few more pixels lol they would be no good though as you would only be able to watch the channels Apple wanted you too lmao but i have no doubt they would be the most beautiful TVs EVER!!!!!!

Wow.

Firstly, both companies are trying to move away from each other. Samsung were the ones who cut the ties with Apple, not the other way round. Apple increased their orders with LG, exactly why we don't really know (Samsung claimed they weren't able to maintain the "huge discounts" they were giving Apple). Look at all the image retention issues that the LG panels are having in multiple machines (iMacs and rMBPs). Regardless, the displays are pretty much all as good as each other (this "yellowgate" thing is a load of rubbish, firstly for not being a gate, secondly for not being true), if you get a faulty one, get it sorted out. Nothing more you can do.

Secondly, nick.lidgett, what's wrong with wanting to stay on the same platform? What's wrong with familiarity, picking a solid product that you don't have to worry about, and not coping with the hassle of moving to new services and purchasing new apps all over again? And iOS is far from a fashion accessory: it may not bring as much as some of its competition, but it is still one of the most polished platforms out there (above Android in that respect). Doesn't make it the best, different strokes for different folks and all that. Clearly the iPhone is good enough for many people - look at the sales.

Finally...it has been discussed in another thread by others, but it's silly to deny that the iPhone completely changed the mobile industry, both redefining the devices as well as giving the competition a good kick up the arse to produce better products (which at least partially plays a part as to why Android is so good now).

if you pay close attention you will notice im talking about my wifes reason for choosing iPhone not everyone else. i was throwing it in as an example that there are apple mad people out there for no other reason than that they are the in thing.
i wasnt knocking apple entierly like i say most of their products are fantasic build quality and look very pleasing to the eye.

and on a final note; does anyone really care about sammy buying a bit of sharp and apple deciding to stash all their hard earned cash?
