Why did my GPU start smoking

My day has just gone out with a bang. my EVGA 970 FTW decided to take up smoking, im just trying to figure out if it is the gpu that has caused it or the mobo

Has anybody had this happen to them before?

maybe u didnt had it deep enough, and contact was not that great

It was seated correctly, the catch on the connector was shut and i couldnt push it in any further

IIRC those are the power supply contacts (looks like in the approx position of +12v or ground) so either poor connection or its tried to draw too much power from the board somehow.

test another gpu in the slot to make sure it hasn't taken your pci-e lanes with it

Is the back of the card touching your heatsink? Could have sorted it.

The slot is dead, i tested with an old HD6570, the card is toast, and I am using an EVGA supernova NEX750G

First thing tomorrow morning organising the RMA is the only thing i will be doing. I have only had the board + card for just under a month so shouldnt be a problem

Did you get it all from OCUK? If so, there should be no problems at all.
