:o Howzit All,

Well last night I was trying to get a couple of games to run on my system. Vista ultimate;

X800XT
2Gb DDR
AMD A64 3200+
300Gb SATA

Now, to me, I should be able to run all games just fine. So I installed 7.3 CAT drivers and then installed Need For Speed Carbon.

Over the last month or so all my games have ran pretty crap on Vista. :(

So I got bored last night and just formatted and installed XP Pro and Vista.

Wish I had of thought of that in the first place!!

Now my games are running at max setting 100% on XP Pro as I expected. :D

I wish Vista would get better soon!!

yea i got tierd if vista woes so i made a partition and installed it on there, got best of both worlds now and i dont know why i didnt do it earlier :)

can test vista till me hearts content now

Not that i am having a go or anything,

This is why i dont buy a new OS straight away, surely people must be aware that it wil be quite a while before it works nicely.

Im not buying vista untill things are sorted.

I'm sorry but I just don't get it; what the hell are people doing using Vista?

It eats processors and RAM for making it look slightly prettier. If you're just after a pretty looking system - get a Mac?

XP loads faster than 2K and has various other useful aspects so I think it's a step forward and use it over Linux as a desktop because it's far better for general use (games, internet sites that insist on IE, etc).

What am I missing? Why do people want to use Vista? Tell me your secrets please!!!

Because if they're just after something that looks pretty they do that oh so very very well. You just can't beat that FreeBSD UNIX varient coding ;)

There really is no secret.
I've fast adopted every OS since Win95.
Sure, being part of the beta test team on each OS helps - I get to play, use and see the OS a long time before many.
However at the same time I see the benefit the new OS brings.

Right now I see no performance hit under Vista.
It works excellently with the immature drivers available now - so once they mature it will be even better.

The only time I've ever bothered with a dual-boot is when I went Win98 to Win2k.
Mainly because I was jumping from 16bit to 32bit computing and there were compatability issues.
However even then I only ran both OS's for about a month before I moved totally over to Win2k.
Basically if a game or application wouldn't run under Win2k I didn't want to use it.

Been using Vista as my only OS since last year and there is no way I could go back to XP now.

I am only using XP for games at the moment. Vista is my main OS and Nefarious, I suggest you take some time out, and actually read how Vista manages it's memory.

I find my Vista loads 100 times quicker then my XP does! :(

Since I upgraded to Vista Ultimate everything seems much quicker despite my iron-aged system. I'm really loving this new OS at the moment, and it does far more over XP than simply making it look better, although this is a distinct advantage :).

Everything including Office 2007 seems to load faster, which is suprising considering it all looks much better and probably has more information to load. I am aware that Vista pre-loads stuff at startup to make things quicker but that's ok by me as long as it works!

Really loving Vista and it will only get better. It won't be long until all the XP-lovers have moved over, especially when DX10 hits as mentioned above.

XP doesnt load faster than 2k are you mad??? XP with SP2 is dam slow to boot even on a raptor. And xp i have found espeacially with games makes them run slow cause its so bloated with stuff u dont need. I have server 2003 64 on my system and it runs like a dream and it doesnt crash like XP either or even Vista (i managed to blue screen vista by playin a DVD lol) So i would say that trying a server OS is a good idea cause im never gonna use XP on my main system again. The only issue is drivers but apart from that everyone should try it:D

Lol at that comment ref 2k3 :D

Vista blue-screening, as crazy at it might sound, isn't Vista's fault. If a driver causes such a problem or incompatibility it's probably the program's fault. For example I had a early version of Nero 7 that rebooted Vista whenever I tried to erase a DVD-RW. I upgraded to the latest Nero listed as Vista compatible and all is now good.

i thought that might be appericated:D but im gonna wait till longhorn comes out cause that should be a good server OS hopefully:)

Vista runs games fine for me, as fast if not faster than XP  Okay, 2Gb am really helps but Vista is fine, maybe you need to check the other things in your System?
X800XT -> X850 speeds
X2 3800+
2Gb DDRII

Don't think so, XP is far superior to win 2000, the system I have at present loads XP in less than 45sec and that is not a new install, with plenty programs loading on start

just lol. :D

no probs with vista here either. i think 2gb seems to be the main minimum requirement which is a lot but then a lot of people have been running 2000/xp with 2gb for ages anyway. :)

No, its not high end. But your rig is FAR from middle of the road. Have you actually seen what is in the guts of the average PC from the purple shirt company. In that shop, your rig would be high end. :)

Anyway, Vista is ok - in about 7 months... :D
