never had a problem running vmware server here on xp pro. can't see why it would cause problems with xp home.... :p

Well, IIS isn't available so the full installation won't even run - beyond that I don't know, it's certainly not supported. Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 (and 2007 beta) won't install on XP Home.

I run VMware server on Win XP pro and Win2003 server and it is great!

It is free, you can create vertual PC's/servers and there are other tools you can get for it that are all free as well, as I said it's the mutts nuts! :)

(vista screenshot but you get the idea....)

all you need is the main vmware component illustrated above for it to work fully. :D

Ahh didnt know that, I uninstalled Virtual Server now anyway and I am using Virtual PC 2004.

It works perfect. I can reboot and it doesnt hang my machine. Boot up times are normal. Also it recognise's my 7600gt as integrated graphics card in Windows. Under VMServer it would only boot into VGSave mode.

I'm not anti-ms or anything and will go with whatever works. I tried VMServer as a recommendation. Happy it works for other people, shame it never worked for me. The least it did was show me how cool virtualisation is. Would never have downloaded Virtual PC otherwise.

I tried to download Virtual PC 2007 BETA, but its missing from the MS website. Ah well. I wouldnt mind trying it out.

All's well that ends well. Whats it like running Virtual PC with a dual processor, say core duo or amd x2. Can you assign one core to the virtual machine, and one to the guest? That would be wicked. Especially for hosting games servers!!

Okies, im off to trash my virtual PC! First of all, im going to see what nasties it gets from going on the web unprotected... He he..

Really impressed with Virtual PC 2004. Have been running a trial of the netscape 8 browser. Its really good. I may even switch from Opera to it. I will give it a bit more of a trial yet. This is what having a virtual PC is all about isnt it... I exit my VPC and here I am, back on my pristine system. Two games installed, Office and Photoshop. If I want to mess, I can mess. If I want to work I can work on a stable system. Aahhhh. Finally.

(I especially like the undo facility in Virtual PC. Thats a big thumbs up for me!)
