Why Do Computer makes have to install junk?

As I say - it's all about money. They know that anyone with any computer knowledge will just remove it, and anyone who doesn't know enough to remove it probably won't care about it..

It's not that people who don't know how don't care, it's usually that they don't realise how much difference it makes. Show a non-tech-literate person the difference between startup times on a low-end machine with bloatware, and they assume it's because of the hardware. It's a perfect way to sell a better machine to someone who doesn't need it.

Best thing to do is format straight way imo. This is why more and more people are getting macbooks... they just look nicer "out the box"

thinking about it i should be able to use my Win7 Disk & Use HP key code right?

its same type of windows HP 64bit,.

Most annoying thing ever. Have CCLeaner, Revo Uninstaller ready and just blitz the lot of them. Or just format drive and fresh install the OS.

I have to agree though - Dell dont install a lot of crapware.

Can't understand this practice. Surely they're shooting themselves in the foot. Microsoft should clamp down as it makes them look bad.

Have you ever heard the average user complain about the plethora of installed junk? (BT router cds seem to be the worse i've come across) Or do they just moan about Windows being slow and cursing Microsoft? always the latter for me.

Neither my MacBook Pro or MacBook Air came with pre-installed junk . Also the PC I got from OcUK for someone didn't have any junk either, just Windows 7 and drivers .

In all seriousness though, yeah it's stupid this pre-installed bloat. I'd say Acer are the worst. I build all my desktops from components, but for other peoples laptops etc I just format the hard drive and start from fresh myself!

Everything seems to come with junk nowadays, if you install a Wifi adapter of some sort, it comes with its own program to do exactly what windows if perfectly capable of.

But the average Joe user will see 3 months after buying their laptop that Norton constantly pops up and scares them into paying £xx or else they'll have their identity stolen and be murdered.

Surely putting all that crap on there slowing it down so much just gives them a bad name? I've fixed laptops and computers for people many times that have 10-25 programs loading on start-up! Most of them being absolute rubbish that's been there from the start. I remove it all and they're amazed at how quick it is!

Actually Macs did come with "junk" applications in the past. Some were full versions and some were trials. Office 2004 Trial springs to mind... Nothing on the scale of PC manufacturers though. Fine, bundle loads of trials things but why do they have so much stuff running in the background?
