Why do drives seem to all fail at once ?

Is it just me ?

Yesterday

RAID0 failed ... ordered a new drive which arrived today and restored the 4am backup to it - Acronis worked well but was unable to short stroke the drive so I ended up faffing around with gparted to get it performing better than before.

Today

Having just finished the restoration above, I decide that it would be prudent to check the media/NAS and run a backup.

*sigh*

Disk 1 2Tb - Primary data backed up once a week is showing SMART errors but is 'live' - I'm now running a differential on it *fingers crossed*

Disk 2 1.5Tb - HD Movies full to the brim - Not critical and so not backed up but should have been moved to the RAID5 array. SMART errors and looks dead

Think he has a point ! As I forgot that my DVD/RW packed in too ... swapped it for another and get the same problem - it's now a coaster making machine - That's definitely a cable issue.

I'll change all the cables tomorrow - Thanks Stulid

EDIT: Phew backup complete - I've just got that 1.5TB drive to deal with
