Why do files download quicker with Vista rather than XP?

Hi, I have just been installing Vista as a dual boot system and noticed that files I download from the web arrive sooner on Vista than on XP.
After a bit of testing I would say that XP is about 2/3 the speed of Vista.
I am on BT broad band.
The slower speed was also seen on another computer in the same room using the same voyager 210 modem. Each test was done with one comp connected to the modem at a time.
Any ideas??

the other computers have had windows installed for a longer period and have more gunk leeching resources / stealing bandwith

potential spyware etc on the pre vista machines?

Probably due to the new written network stack and the fact Vista optimizes MTU/TCP settings automatically,

I notice quite a difference when using XP MCE & Vista, Vista does seem more responsive, quicker loading webpage’s and downloading files.
