Why do I have to install through Steam?

i cant stand playing FPS on consoles. mouse has so much more control than a controller. the graphics on the pc can always go higher. keyboard has more controls.

and most of the time the consol is doing all the hard work! with auto aim and all that crap. no skill what so ever.

id love to play someone on multiplayer. they use ****ty consol, i use pc.
 
This seems as good a place as any to ask a steam question:

I already have a steam account with a small number of games. If i was to buy a hard copy of a steam bases game, can i 'import' that into my steam account? or would I have to set up a second account.
 
no it installs it into your logged in steam account.

i have half life and some other games all in the same account.

not big fan of steam though, i miss when you could run games quickly from the desktop, not have to wait around for steam.
 
I went to install this yesterday and noticed this. Perfect for somebody who doesn't have the internet at home yet because Virgin are slow. So can't play this. How is this fair??? If you don't have access to the internet you can't play the bloody game! bah! Empire Total War was the same. Disgraceful.

my virgin internet litually is at 1024kbs now to a london server on speedtest.net

had problems with them before though, but i assume you havnt gone to their website to appy for the free speed upgrade yet.

oh it does say on the box you need internet to play


*** edit: oh i see what you mean. also this stops people from copying games as easily. its for internet cdkey verification mainly.

I didn't mean their internet was slow, just their setting up process and customer service is appalling! Don't EVER try ringing them, its a waste of time.

I saw it on the box, but bought from the internet and glossed over the "small print" as it were.
 
I was waiting for this.

"**** Steam, I have dial-up internet and it takes ages".

Happens everytime a Stempowered game is released.

heh

even on the 512kb internet in my mum's house, if you leave steam on it trickles the TF2 and L4D updates quickly enough :)

buying a new game on that is a PITA

quicker for me to drive to Cardiff, download a game on my laptop, then drive back and copy it over the network :cool:

It does say 'Internet Connection Needed' pretty clearly on the box....

Then maybe you should have read the back of the box before you purchased it. Not being funny or anything. It does clearly state that you need an internet connection to play the game. :)
 
I know it does, I can see that now, but not when I bought it over the internet.

All I'm getting at is that games shouldn't have to require this. It's incredibly annoying.
